Description for Mercedes-Benz 190-Series 1955

This is a 1955 Mercedes-Benz 190SL numbers matching car, documented by Mercedes Benz. I have owned this car for a few years and it has been a pleasure. I always wanted the first year 190sl. The 1955 is just a special car that is different than the later years. Different parts and minor design features distinguish these cars including smaller tail-lights, early design top latches, two piece dash cover and 300SL Gullwing seats.

This car is an early production car being car number "760”. This has always been a dry car. Two sisters from Plano Texas inherited the car from their parents in the early 70's and owned it until September 1980 when a couple from Wichita Falls, Texas bought the car. They had the car for 31 years doing regular routine maintenance and used lightly. The car was bought and a full restoration was completed prior to my purchase.

The restoration of this beautiful example was completed in 2012. The car received beautiful new Ivory paint, new red leather interior, new red Wilton carpet, new leather boot cover, new correct Black German Canvas top, all chromed bumpers and parts were re-chromed, chassis was cleaned and treated with Wuertz product, new exhaust system, new whitewall tires. Much care has been taken to ensure originality in the restoration process, from the original Bosch headlight trim rings down to the original spare and jack in the trunk. The original Solex carburetors have been replaced with Webers to improve drive-ability, but the original Solex carbs come with the car.

The car runs and drives great, with only a few hundred miles on it since restoration. This car was used in a Saks Fifth Avenue ad in 2012 and I have receipts for some of the work that has been done.

As late as 2013 a significant upkeep bill of $8600 was spent to include:

The original Radiator was re-cored

The entire mechanical braking system was rebuilt - Servo brakes were optional until 1956 at which point they became standard.

Rear axle seals and bearings replaced

All heater and Radiator Hoses replaced

Full Tune up and associated upkeep

I am selling a couple of my cars as I do not have time for them anymore. This car will never go out of style and it is a first year car! Drive it and enjoy!
