Description for Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 1985
1985 Mercedes Benz 300DAll Original! Turbo Diesel - Project carNo Reserve Auction! Here is an all original 1985 Mercedes Benz 300D Turbo Diesel. This is the last year of the iconic body style and some say the best Mercedes ever made! This vehicle will be sold to the high bidder on a no reserve auction! Please review the description and feel free to reach out for further information. I am open to ending the auction early if we can arrive at an agreeable price. The current condition of this vehicle makes it a great candidate for restoration or spend some money on the mechanics and drive it daily.
The exterior of this Benz is finished in gun metal silver. The paint is in poor condition as it has been sitting outside partially covered for several years, a complete paint job will be necessary. All glass, plastics, lenses and trim are in good condition. All handles and latches are in good working order. The exterior is straight and in good order will all original body panels. New tires will be necessary.
The interior is in remarkably good condition. The MB Tex is in excellent condition throughout with no rips or tears. All door panels, rear carpet, and other trim panels/pieces are in good condition, the drivers carper will need to be replaced as it was damaged from oil leak from the cluster when oil pressure gauge line came loose, this has now been fixed. The wood trim is also in nice condition; better than to be expected for age. The dash board has about 6 cracks, see pictures. All climate control functions are in great working order with air blowing from selected vents. The heat is working as it should, but the AC is not blowing cold. Other factory options including, cruise control, power windows, and sunroof are all working as designed, the vacuumlocks are not working. Factory radio is present and working intermittently.
Mechanically is where this classic needs the most help. It starts the first time every time and drives down the road fairly. Shifting through all gears up and down as it should. The car does not run as smooth and quietly as it should when it is warmed up. I have driven many of these models and it should be smoother, quicker and quieter and its not. I was told by a friend who is a mechanic that the valves need to be adjusted. It does have a few drops of oil leaking underneath when parked, not uncommon on these old diesels. It will need an alternator and has a vacuum leak affecting the ignition and the engine must be stopped with the stop lever inside the engine compartment. This vehicle was well maintained and as a lot of potential. It was driven by a salesman in CA, after a move to AZ, a need for a car with better AC resulted in putting this car aside; this poor thing has been sitting ever since. The true miles are unknown as the odometer stopped working but estimated to be about 275,000. In my experience I would guess if someone had access to a great independentMercedes mechanic, it would take about $2,000 to make this engine like new.
As mentioned above this vehicle is being sold in a NO RESERVE AUCTION. This means that the high bidder will be the new owner! Please be aware and bid accordingly and within your comfort level as you will be expected to consummate your purchase with full payment within 72 hours from auctions end. If you require any further information, please feel free to email, text or call anytime. 602-508-1800. I will be happy to assist you in anyway that I can. We are located in central Phoenix if you decide to drive in and pickup your car, I would not recommendeddriving this car out of state, however I would be comfortable driving it 100 +/, miles if your local. Feel free to text or call for a shipping quote during the auction so you can factor that into your purchase price, in some cases we can assist with shipping expense.
