This vehicle is very rare, believed to be one of 3 RHD examples built, this car has been of the grid for many, many years, and for reasons we cannot explain ended up in New Mexico!
It is finished in deep burgundy with white roof, and is accompanied by the later style “Mexican Hat†wheels. Its speedo is inMPH not KMH, it is turn key and has its factory fitted 4 speed manual transmission on the tree.
The body of the car is very honest and has faired well in the New Mexico climate, all floors are very good indeed and have lasted well due to the European undersealing of these areas. The bottoms of the doors, rockers, and other areas you would usually associate with rusting are very well preserved indeed. The odd area has some signs of ageing but nothing you wouldn’t expect of a car of this age. All inner fenders and radiator support areas are exceptional, even the factory firewall sound deadening is still in place.
The 6 Cylinder 230 motor starts on the key, fed by twin 38 PDSI Solex Carbs with their original air filter still installed, this motor sounds great, German engineering from back in the day indeed! Interior wise the car is showing signs of age, but still emanating its “Survivor†status. The headliner is torn in a few localised areas and the seats have some leather missing, I would guess they had some heat in New Mexico and suffered a little… The dash has a couple of age cracks, and in general you would wish to restore the car. The rear door shows the wooden panelling in the extended trunk space and has the metal beauty strips with rubber inserts just where Mercedes left them.
As mentioned, the car does runs and drive around the yard, but will require a full re-commissioning before using on the road/restoring. Please do your homework, this car is extremely rare and will complement any Mercedes Benz Collectors stable. The car is a classic, it is very straight for its age, but does have the odd whisky dent and blemish – just what you would expect from a vehicle that is over half a century old. The odometer is showing 2324 miles, this has to be at least second time around… Please study the underside shots carefully, you can even make out the factory paint markings from 1967 – very well preserved.
Please feel free to email or call with any questions, this car is available with worldwide shipping, please do not hesitate to reach out to us for either. A great value rare example for entry level collector car monies. We are located on the outskirts of Dallas Texas USA, please feel free to come on by and view, in fact we hope you do – you will not be disappointed with this survivor!
At our dealership we work very hard to accurately describe our vehicles through text descriptions and elaborate photos. When you purchase a pre-owned vehicle it is not a new vehicle. Any used vehicle can have normal wear and blemishes. Before placing a bid please read the descriptions thoroughly and view all pictures.
