The R107 series of the Mercedes-Benz Sl Class was the third generation, being introduced for the 1971 model year. The R107 chassis was the first SL to be offered from the factory with a V8 option, something totally synonymous with the model nowadays. The R107 SL is an elegant grand touring roadster, so the smooth torquey power delivery of a V8 makes a lot of sense. The 560SL was introducedin 1986, as a response to the U.S. governments new mandates around emissions. This model had a larger displacement than the older 500SL to make up the power lost by the newly installedemissions equipment, and was only ever offered in the U.S. market. The 5.6l v8 made 227 horsepower and a very healthy 287 lb-ft of torque.
Presented here is a 1988 model year 560sl. This car has only clocked about 27,000 miles since leaving the showroom floor in 1988. Due to this the car is in excellent condition throughout, making this R107 a true collectors item. Outside, the various chrome and rubber trim are all in very good condition and do not show any noticeable flaws orirregularities. The textured rocker panels are clearly original, and have done their job well as they are in excellent condition. The paint overall is mostly original and presents very well, with no signs of any rust bubbling or cracking anywhere. The original soft top is also in pretty remarkable condition, and fits very nicely like it should. The plastic rear window shows some scuffing due to being stored in the boot for a long time, but it still remains pliable and has no cracking. The interior is also in great condition, with only a small amount of bolster wear on the seats and some minor wear on the drivers side floor mat. These interior are known for being high quality, and that is proven with how well this car has held up.
The engine compartment is in nice shape, with absolutely no modifications from originalpresent. The fuel system has just been gone through, with a new fuel tank, injectors, fuel pumps, and a full system clean out being performed. The mileage appears to be original at 27,700 with how clean and tidy everything is inside and out of the car. None of the touched surfaces show any major signs of wear and underneath the car is in great shape. There are no signs of rust in the typical places such as around the jacking points, floors, and front fenders.
This car starts easily when both cold and warm, and shifts into gear swiftly and smoothly. Driving down the road the engine sounds and feels very healthy, and the torquey v8 really pulls the car along nicely. Steering is light and effortless, and the suspension is quiet and supple.
