Description for Mercedes-Benz 300SD 1980

Vehicle Details

1980 Mercedes-Benz 300SD Turbo Diesel w/Euro Headlights and bumpers and all service/repair manuals (see photo below)

4-door sedan body and Line-5 2998 cm3 / 183.2 cui, 89.5 kW / 122 PS / 120 hp (SAE net) of power, 231 Nm / 170 lb-ft of torque, 4-speed automatic powertrain.

Driven every day and all work performed at a Mercedes-Benz Dealership and/or by a Certified Mercedes Master Technician.

Purchased at 114k miles from original owner. Vehicle had sat for around 3 years and has been nursed back to health over the past 5 years. I have a complete service manual with stamps up until I purchased her.

Most notable upgrades/updates include…

Removal of ACC Servo and Amplifier and replaced with Unwired Tools ACC Electronic Upgrade. These are extremely prone to failure and are very expensive to replace. A rebuilt servo is at least $600 and the amplifier is no longer available from MB. This upgrade makes the climate control system reliable. The original system is a nightmare and not worth the trouble in many owners opinion which brings me to the next upgrade…

Removal of terrible GM Delco R4 A/C Compressor and replaced with a Sanden modern heavy-duty compressor with new hoses from Klima Kit. The R4 compressor drains loads of power from the engine, provides lackluster cooling and can cause the engine to overheat quickly in the summer months especially in the city. The new compressor is better in every way and cools very nicely in the Texas heat. Refrigerant was converted from R12 to R134A. Unless you want to replace your compressor every summer, this is for you!

Rebuilt Bosch Nozzles with Monark Injectors. These are the only nozzles still made in Germany and are highly regarded in the Mercedes Diesel Community. These made the engine runner smoother with less smoke and noticeable engine sound improvement.

Removal of stock sound system and installation of new stealth bluetooth audio system. Stock look is maintained by keeping the stock Becker head unit and wiring the power/volume knob to turn on the Infinity Kappa K5 wireless 1000 watt amp that power a “10 Boston Acoustic Sub and 4 Pioneer Speakers with built-in tweeter. Stock speaker grills were maintained and there is no indication of an aftermarket sound system unless you look in the trunk. Upon starting the vehicle, the amp automatically pairs to your bluetooth device and your ready to bump some tunes! Driving comfort is greatly increased! Stock antennae has been deactivated. Sound deadener has been added to trunk and spare tire well for rattle-free bass!

Rear seat was completely re-upholstered by the renowned Tin Lizzie Affair in Dallas, TX in supple tobacco leather with new padding.

Recent valve adjustment with new valve cover gasket

Both the front and rear window seals have been replaced. Rear glass was also replaced after original was cracked during tinting.

Sand blasted and powder coated wheels. These are some of the best looking examples of the original “bundt cake” wheels you will ever see!

I have poured a lot of TLC into this dream of a car, but there a few minor issues that should be noted…

The central locking system works well, but will lose vacuum after a few minutes. This means the drivers door must be locked within 2 minutes of shutting the engine off or the doors, trunk and gas lid door will not lock together. Once vacuum is lost, the doors stay locked, but will not unlock together. All doors unlock after engine is ran for 20 seconds. Vacuum pump is in working order. Engine shuts off immediately.

Engine, power steering gear box and transmission have minor fluid leaks. These are to be expected with these engines and only need to be topped off once a month or so.

Front turn signal carriers have been crimped for added life/ less headaches.

Hood, Front fenders and both driver side doors were repainted with Sikkens paint at the dealer. I changed jobs and wasn’t able to complete the painting. Some door dings, and a scrape on the right rear door and quarter panel above the fender well. Also, car wash damage to the top of the rear right fender near the deck lid. Overall body and paint are in good shape. There is some slight clear coat fading on the front of the roof and the trunk. Overall finish is good.

Automatic Glow plug Relay has been replaced with a manual button on the dash. You control how much glow you want.

After replacing the drivers door regulator, I decided to convert it to manual crank like the euro-models. If you like to roll your window down a lot, this is an excellent solution! All other windows are powered, but the front passenger side motor is not working at the moment, and the rear left regulator is skipping, but still works. Rear passenger window works perfectly. Front switches are shiny and new!

Drivers seat is wearing due to use. The dash has 3 small cracks. Rear bench is brand new

*Front wiper motor needs to be replaced. Part is included in sale. Fixing the wiper motor will fix the horn as well. Wiper cowl drain needs to be cleared. Rear driver side window motor skips.
