Description for Mercedes-Benz SL-Class 1973
You are biding on a 1973 Mercedes Benz 450SL soft-top Convertible with the optional hard-top. The soft top is in good condition. while the hard-top is in need of repair(see photos). This vehicle DOES start. run. and drive(all gears work). As with any early model car there is some repair needed. There are receipts for $3. 00(uncertain what the exact total was) of parts and labor(this includes restoring parts of the engine). Body work will be needed as there are touches of rust in places on the upper body of the car. There is also rust on the underside (the belly pan) of the car that would need to be addressed at some point. The power windows work. All lights work (turn signals. high/low beams. brake/running. reverse. hazards. and fog lights). The head lights are the European style head lights and are crystal clear. I am not certain if the front/rear bumpers are factory or if they have been fitted with after market parts. The wiper motor has been replaced. however I have not figured out how to make them work. The rubber fuel lines to and from the fuel pump have been replaced with the exception of one short hose that I would suggest changing also. The fuel pump has been repaired with used parts and sprang a leak. Then. the original pump was re-fitted and has and also developed a small leak(this vehicle should be transported on a trailer and not driven until after the leak is repaired). The plugs and plug wires are brand new along with new distributor cap and rotor button. The passenger side mirror will need some work as it does not sit in the bracket as it should. The ignition switch will need replaced since the previous owner lost the keys(see photo). The original keyed switch can be obtained from the dealer cheaper than getting a universal switch from the dealer. The wait time is about 6 weeks from what they told me. The previous owner had replaced brake lines front and rear. There are no cracks in the glass anywhere. There is an after market exhaust from the previous owner. the bracket at the muffler has come loose (that's why the red strap is there in the photos). The seat material is in good condition. I haven't noticed any cracks or tears in them. I will be happy to answer any questions to the best of my ability. This was a fun car to bring back to life. Also included besides all the receipts are the service manuals(buying these manuals alone could easily cost $500+ to acquire at an average of $100 per book):-Electrical Troubleshooting Manual-Service Manual Chassis and Body service Manual series 107 Volume 1-Service Manual Chassis and Body service Manual series 107 Volume 2-Service Manual Heating.
