Description for Mercedes-Benz 300-Series 1964
1964 Mercedes 300SE Cabriolet Up for sale from a private collection is a well maintained European spec 1964 Mercedes 300SE Cabriolet (1 of 708 produced). Mechanical The 300SE runs. drives. and stops well with tight steering and solid. quiet power from the 3. 0 litre overhead cam M189 power-plant (backed by a 4 speed manual gearbox). The car is maintained as a driver. but primarily acts as a weekend pleasure vehicle (and is stored away from the elements when not in use). Recent major work was completed to the air suspension (all three leveling valves were rebuilt. in addition to the mode control valve and pump). The system has always been properly maintained with water being drained and alcohol level checked monthly to ensure proper operation. If you're interested in learning more about this particular suspension system. I recommend this: W112 Air Suspension Other major work completed in the past couple of years includes a rebuilt fuel injection pump and rebuilt transmission. If you'd like to hear it run. check out the videos at the bottom of the page. Exterior The body is incredibly straight with zero signs of rust. When the car was imported to the states. it underwent an exterior color change from the original dark bordeaux red (DB-573) to white (DB-050). The color change was professionally done with care taken to remove all weather stripping and other trim before paint was applied. The doors. trunk and hood fit like new (see video below). as do the windows and top. Window mechanisms are smooth. as is the latch action of the doors. hood. and trunk. The top has recently been replaced (but retains the original. untorn headliner). and works well with perfect alignment of the latch points and without excessive play. With the top up and the windows closed. the doors still open and shut without issue. The tonneau cover has been redone and matched to the interior of the car. Interior The interior is fantastic with a recent leather refresh being performed by Leather Menders here in Austin. The wood has been fully restored and is as perfect as you will find in any of the examples for sale today. The Becker signal-seeking radio has been fully restored and works perfectly. A NOS steering wheel was purchased from Mercedes and installed two years ago (original wheel had hairline cracks and is included in the sale). All gauges function as they should. though the air suspension low-pressure warning light has been malfunctioning as of recent -- we've not been able to locate the correct sender unit for it (so you will see the white light illuminated in the dash cluster).
