West Coast Classics are proud to present an absolutely gorgeous older restoration with very few miles on it of an original factory 'Fire Engine Red' (color code 534) 1959 Mercedes 190SL Roadster with its original and rebuilt matching #'s engine & transmission. as confirmed by a copy of its original factory build sheet to be included with the sale and photographed below and with one recent long time Mill Valley. CA doctor owner showing true pride of ownership!This exceptional and beautiful example of this 1959 Mercedes 190SL roadster has a completely rebuilt original matching #'s engine and transmission but please note that the car's original and notoriously high maintenance twin-choke 'Solex' carburetors were removed during the rebuild but will be included in the sale (see photos of them in a box in the trunk below) as they were replaced with an 'Edelbrock' carburetor for easier maintenance. The car boasts its original 'Fire Engine Red' factory color (code 534) which has been very professionally stripped and repainted and the car has a very striking Black leather interior with its original and very convenient and useful small third passenger transverse seat. which was actually a factory option! The car has a matching Black soft top and tonneau cover and a very nice and contrasting Charcoal Gray color carpet and kick panels. new seals (doors. windows. trunk etc. . and all new chrome including front and rear bumpers. front grille. 2 small front grilles. fender guards. inner handles and lights. tail lights. rear view mirror and all door handles! The car seems to have had a mostly rust free history with its seemingly original floors and inner and outer sills. The car has its original engine (#12192110015084); original transmission (#015221); Body #1210421001452 & Chassis #12104210014921. The trunk has a spare wheel and jack in their rightful location in the trunk. This car must be seen and driven to be fully appreciated - the rebuilt engine is extremely strong and responsive with excellent oil pressure and no oil leaks and which sounds absolutely magnificent. the transmission shifts smoothly through all the gears and the engine temperature always remains cool and it does not smoke or leak oil and the brakes and suspension are superb. The older restored leather interior is absolutely gorgeous with a very nice patina and its rare original and working factory clock and all the electrics. lights and the gauges seem to be working properly although please note that the original radio is not working. The 190SL was the first high volume Daimler-Benz sports car and one of the firm's best known U. S. models in the 50's. It was a very luxurious two door roadster and built between the years 1955-63. Internally referred to as the W121. it was presented as an attractive and more affordable alternative to the exclusive 300SL. Styling was deliberately chosen for close identification with the exotic 300SL and featured a similar low grille. long hood. wheel opening eyebrows and generally rounded contours. Not really intended for competition use. it was considered a pleasantly designed tourer with a top speed capability of slightly more than 105mph. Easier to maintain and cheaper to own than a 300SL. both then and now. yet still built with all the solid integrity for which Mercedes had long been famous. Overshadowed for many years by its close cousin the 300SL. the 190SL is still reasonably priced as a milestone Mercedes and will surely prove a very worthwhile investment for the Mercedes enthusiast or any classic sports car collector.
