Description for Mercury 2 Door Coupe 1950
Honor your inner James Dean.......I am selling this very nice, unmolested 1950 MERCURY 6-passenger coupe, Model 72B for a good friend whose husband recently passed away. The attached photos pretty much show the excellent cosmetics of the car. Beyond that, here is what I know or have observed about the car:
-Flathead V8. (Assume original engine, but have not verified engine no.).
-Located in Santa Barbara, California
-Most recently owned 12 years.-Equipped with factory overdrive transmission (not presently working....see below).-Upgraded stereo system with original in-dash radio.-Converted to 12V neg. grd. electrical system.-Lowered with lowering blocks-Front and rear springs and shocks all replaced.-Dual exhausts (sounds like Glasspaks...nice rumble).-Very recently new Coker Radial P215/75 R15 tires.-Electric fuel pump.-Rewired.-Alternator.-Ignition (possibly Pertronix...starts super-fast).-Fiberglas fender skirts.-Clear title.-Older restoration. Paint and chrome generally very good with minor flaws listed below
Driving Observations:-Starts up instantly. (older Optima battery in good condition).-Front end feels tight with no observable looseness or shakiness.-Shifts easily.-Can bottom out on some steep driveways due to being lowered.
Observed flaws:-Overdrive doesn't engage, electrically. Solenoid and governor evidently not included in electrical upgrade.-Hood release cable works but needs to be fussed with to push in or pull out.-Ignition and trunk locks somewhat worn, need to be jiggled to turn.-Minor paint flaws. Scrape (touched up) at front center of roof (automatic garage door??). Miscellaneous scratches.-Chrome excellent except for scrape at top of left front bumper guard.-Ammeter doesn't appear to work. Oil Press and Fuel Gauge and (auxiliary underdash) Temp Gauge work.
