Description for Mercury Cougar 1967
Up for auction is my 1967 Mercury Cougar. I've owned it for 11 years and it's been sitting for most of that. so I'm letting it go. Previous owner was a little ol' lady who drove it regularly until she passed. The car has a 302/C4 engine/tranny combo. power steering & brakes. Runs & drives well. It is complete to my knowledge. except for a turn signal lever and "Mercury" script on the hood. This is a base model. but has the XR7 badge on the trunklid. I have paperwork showing it was professionally appraised at $5. 00 in 2007- before transmission rebuild and new exhaust. Good:Drivetrain is in great shape. Bores looked good when the motor was apart for mild head porting and a mild camshaft. I added a Holly 4 barrel carb and intake off an 1980's Mustang. Transmission is newly rebuilt. Factory style dual exhaust installed last year and sounds nice. With the carb primed it will start no problem after sitting for months. Engine bay was sand blasted and painted after I bought it. What needs attention to drive it regularly: It. occasionally dies as you shift it into gear. I believe due to carburetor adjustment. As mentioned. the turn signal lever is missing. and I may find itExhaust leak between manifolds and head Gauges quit working recentlyHeadlights open but don't close. I haven't pulled the carpet up to check the floor pans for rust. but they seem pretty solid. There's a spot in the trunk that was rusted though and covered with a board for now. Thanks to sheepskin seatcovers. the driver's seat only has one rip in it. Upholstery on the passenger seat is sun damaged but the backseat looks great as is. The dashpad is in great shape. but a lot of the interior chrome needs refinishing. The metal console trim is cracked in half at back. by the ashtray. Front bumper is slightly bent. and rear bumper has surface rust. Minor rust around each rear wheel well. and there are larger spots on the front corner of each door. I pulled the aftermarket(?) vinyl top off when I bought the car so it's unpainted where that was. but not rusty!Odometer shows 32. xx miles. and I would guess actual mileage is 132. xx. Next owner could complete the bodywork to their taste and have a decent driver. or the car would be a good candidate for a complete restoration since it's reasonably solid and complete. Ask me anything before bidding.
