Description for Mercury Bobcat 1978

Description:I have a nice 78 Bobcat hatchbackSURVIVOR!It is white in color with very nice red interior. The 2.3L was rebuilt in summer 2017 with a Ranger head, and it only has around 500 rebuilt miles on it! The odometer sits at around 22K which I believe to be original (don't know if it has rolled over 100K). Hence, I have an old car registration that shows owner from 1989 to 2014
The 4 spd stick shift is a little lose, but it is very driveable as is. I have a part that goes inside the transmission to fix it; however, it looks like someone before me put jb weld on the round plastic piece that sits over the hole where the stick shift goes through; it doesn't screw off. Also, it has refurbished Upper and Lower Control Arms with new bushings, coils, and a fresh alignment. I also have a 8 inch rear end with 3.0 gears that will be going on the car, and taking off the 6.75 rear end with 3.18 gears. It will also get new leaf springs, and shocks. New heater core and hoses, new radiator and hoses, new air pump and air pump check valve installed.

It has some rust under the doors, but it cannot be seen from standing beside the car. You have to get down to look under the doors. All the other rust on the car is surface rust that can be sanded down.
The carb probably needs to be jetted for higher altitude (it's about 6300ft above sea level here). It takes a couple of cranks on a cold start. But once started, it runs like a champ. You should not have that issue since you might be at a lower altitude. I bought the carb at Pep Boys, and it was supposed to be a high altitude carb.
The car has a Kraco stereo/cassette player that works with speakers on the door. Car also has a new spare tire. The car is not pictured with the refurbished white wheels that are off a Mustang II, but will be on the car. And they are really nice too!
Again, it is currently having the rear-end done (axle, leafs, shocks), so it will probably not be done yet at the end of this auction; however, that can be worked out for the serious buyer. Price changed to accomodate the rear-end work to include any brake work needed...
The rarity of the Mercury Bobcat (excluding the wagons), especially the 75-78 models years, makes this car worth the investment. Thanks.
