Description for Mercury Capri 1974
1974 Capri for sale. These are difficult to find in any condition, but next to impossible to find in this condition fully-restored. Completely restored professionally, many new original stock parts including most of the interior.
Converted to V-8 5-speed. Interior and exterior almost entirely stock.
See dozens and photos and three videos at my blog www.74capri.com. There you will also see an extensive list of the work done, parts used, upgrades, etc. (also summarized below)
Major upgrades include the V-8, 5-speed transmission, air conditioning, sound system, and suspension.
Three years after having completed the restoration, and after continuing to improve and fine-tune things since then, I have decided to move on to my next project. I have put less than 2,000 miles on the car since the restoration. Well over $30K invested in this car - a labor of love.
The car runs strong, all gauges work, everything works (except the clock and the map-light), it drives straight without a shimmy, it brakes well without pulling, and shifts up and down smoothly through all five gears. It does not need any work and could be a daily-driver, or just used for joy rides and car shows. Cruises nicely at freeway speeds. Car is fast but not built as a racer - its bark is somewhat worse than its bite; for a 40+ year old car, the ride is fairly refined.
I have owned two Porsche 911’s – this car is just as fun and I get way more comments, thumbs-up, and smiles when driving. At the few car shows I have taken it to, there are lots of surprised looks and almost everyone (over the age of 50) knows someone that owned a Capri or has a Capri experience.
