Description for Mercury Monterey 1952
1952 Mercury Sports Coupe, not a Monterey (but eBay insists that I use that model to list the car)
This is an original 1952 Mercury Sports Coupe survivor. There are only a few changes on this car from the way the factory shipped it. These include conversion to 12V negative ground; alternator, rather than generator; electric fuel pump; electric windshield wipers; and seat belts.
The rest of the car is like factory new, including complete repaint of the exterior in subtle two-tone; complete reupholstery of the interior, including headliner; repainted dashboard and garnish moldings; rechromed front and rear bumper, grille, taillight surrounds, and horn ring. The new chrome is much better than the Korean War era chrome that the factory was stuck with.
The car has new rings and bearings, a new clutch, a new pressure plate, new overdrive solenoid and wiring, new universal joints, rebuilt driveshaft, and new steering idler arm.
There is a new factory rubber floor mat (Sports Coupes had these mats); and new Coker wide whites.
Exhaust from the original flathead V8 exits through factory dual exhausts with new glasspack mufflers that provide a subtle - but not loud - rumble.
Recent service includes sparkplugs, oil and filter change, draining and refilling the three-speed transmission and overdrive unit, repacked wheel bearings, service brake and parking brake adjustment, carburetor adjustment, cooling system drain and flush, steering box adjustment (although the steering is still a little "notchyâ€), and horn rewiring - button, rather than horn ring.
The gauges all work as they should, and the only non-working items are the clock, the windshield washer, and the original AM radio. There is a wiper burn on the passenger side of the windshield, and the vent windows are showing some delamination at the edges.
This car has won several trophies in the last year! The car has a valid California title in my name, is registered (with year-of-manufacture license plates), and insured, and is completely drivable.
