Well sorted older restoration." VIN 89637 The 1939 Mercury 99a Sport Convertible was the first year for the new shark mouth grille by Edsel Continental designer Bob Gregorie for Edsel. The car on offer here is this fabulous unmolested example; all original sheet medal from new, no patches or bondo anywhere. It has been collector and enthusiast owners... for the last 40 years. Floor shift 1939 only. Restored forty years ago with an eye toward originality, using OEM parts, the car is a wonderfully time capsule to the past. It came from the factory fully optioned with radio and heater and leather interior. The car remains in excellent condition; the top and boot are almost new. The rear window glass is clear. The stock wheels remain in wonderful condition and the white wall tires and matching spare show little use. The original 239 CID flat head V-8 engine was rebuilt during the restoration, the quality of which is demonstrated by its easy starting, smooth running and great power and torque. Rebuilt or replaced starter, generator, fuel pump, carburetor, distributor, ignition wires, master cylinder, wheel cylinders & shocks. The3-speed manual transmission was removed and rebuilt and the fuel was cleaned and restored. Receipts available. Equipped with the standard Mercury highway rear gears (3:51); the car easily cruises down the interstate. The standard hydraulic brakes make for safe stopping. The transmission shifts as designed and the car keeps up with traffic and is a pleasure to drive. Modern LED headlight bulbs are cleverly hidden in the stock lights and allows for late nights at the cruise-ins. The only other departure from stock is dual exhaust system with glass-paks. Purchase with confidence, as this Mercury is tight, runs and drives as new and draws crowds wherever it goes; you will not be disappointed!
