You are bidding on a very rare Mercury Cougar 500. According to Bill Parcells. the National data base director for the Cougar Club of America. “the Cougar 500’s are very unusual. There is little known about them. They were a local promotion in the Charlotte & Atlanta areas and related to the Charlotte 500 race. There were small block Cougars and 428’s. the only color known is white. The cars were purchased through several local dealerships. but the deal was they had to be picked up at the track. All the cars in the promotion (Cougars Cyclones that I know of) were delivered to the track. and driven together on the track for a few laps. It had to be an incredible sight. There are 18 known Cougar 500’s including yours. Yours is the 2nd small block known. and also the lowest VIN known. All of the Cougar 500’s are either 17 or 21 DSO. and as I said. white. ” This car was discovered in Greensboro. NC and hadn’t been started in many years; it now runs fine and has been driven locally.
