Description for Mercury Montego 1970
Wow what a rare find a 70 cyclone base. 429 cj. 4 speed with ram air to boot. Talk about rare I was informed only 120 bases are accounted for and of those this is a cj in one of the rarest colors on cyclones this year. Mileage is original as the guy I acquired it from bought it in 77 and in 79 pulled drivetrain for a restoration that never happened due to life. Motor turns over and isn't locked up . I reinstalled it to make shipping easier. Rumor is it was drag raced early on and when delivered to the dealer its motor was pulled. blueprinted and balanced. racing cam installed along with headers and this groovy Shelby intake. I can't confirm any of this but car does have a weird metal tag on drivers door that reads c2265? I've tried researching this a little but have came up with nothing. Some have said looks like a state tag but title clean and car shows no evidence of accidents. I do know this dealer was heavily involved in the drag scene of the era. Selling 3 of the 427 gte Cougars and sponsering a 428 cougar race car. If anybody has any further knowledge about any of thus I'd love to hear it. Other odd things are the gt side trim. it was obviously placed on but looks too good for it not to be dealer installed. Notice the gt trim emblems on the quarter panel wrong spot and the rear valance would not be black on a gt like it is on this car. Also has the holes in the wheel wells for moulding and the base tailpanel with base grille. Weird to say the least. Car would make a great 2nd day restoration. Okay car is pretty compoets but the big bummer is a c6 was installed early on and I have no idea what happened to it. but the pedals and hump are still there. Exhaust manifolds and heat shield are missing as is the original carb and top of ram air although I do have the base but no snorkel. Nodular was replaced with a trac lock but it is the 31 splineHere's the good motor has the vin huge plus!!! Correct heads. 4 speed distributor. correct shroud and radiator. valve covers and carter x fuel pump. Even retains the original water pump. Now for the condition this car will need a full restoration with extensive metal work. The car sat outside for a portion of its life and the cowl plugged as usual causing damage to the front floor owns and toe boards. It also damaged the front passenger door pillar which will be a major repair along with cowl. On the bright side the rails and torque boxes are in pretty good shape. The engine compartment and trunk are in really good shape. Look At pics close I can text or email additional photos and will entertain offers. Realistic ones I'm very aware of the parts value on this car. Hood will likely need replaced unless you are good trunk devoid is soft. One quarter is soft but good the other will need a patch. Trunk seal area good as are the doors. Passenger rocker will need some repair from cowl same area as door post. Please look over well this car needs work in areas but has a lot of good areas alsoI hope this car gets a proper restoratiom as it's truly a rare unique high dollar muscle car when finished. Much rarer than cj gts and all spoilers were gt's Devan 2605780379
