Further cleanout of surplus vintage cars and parts: This is a no reserve auction and the MGB GT will be sold regardless of price, n or off auction. Getting tired of seeing nothing but "restored" or junk, odified, estorod, noriginal or rusty cars for sale? It's getting harder for the do it yourselfer to find a solid original car to buy without taking out a 2nd mortgage on the home. A lot of cars have been given a one week "restoration" hiding many sins and covering up the interesting historic indicators of time. Most solid original survivors have disappeared. I have never bought a "restored" car, aving spent 40 years collecting the best original condition cars that I could find and putting them in storage preserving them for enjoyment by some future owner. This MGB GT is a first class survivor described as follows:

GENERAL DESCRIPTION:

This particular auction is for an authentic original 1971 MGB GT as shown. A classic beauty in one of the best color combinations available - a Caribbean flavored Teal blue with Autumn Leaf interior. A fine unrestored 2 owner original survivor. The previous owner was a retired John Deere engineer who kept it in a climate controlled garage, aintained it meticulously and never drove it in the rain. Still has his old John Deere parking lot stickers on the bumpers as shown. The odometer shows 42160 miles which the previous owner assured as being correct and the condition confirms that this is indeed a low mileage car but of course I cannot guarantee the speedometers accuracy. There are 60 photos. The official British Motor Industry Heritage Trust Certificate shows it was manufactured in October of 1970 and sent to the USA on a special Personal Export Delivery Service program to the new owner. It has air conditioning and a sunroof. The air conditioning is all intact in the cockpit. In the engine compartment it is missing the compressor and the condensor - simply removed by the previous owner when the air compressor died. The A/C pulley, rier, oses, tc are still there. When the car was new the owner was concerned about future rust and had the entire car professionally rustproofed and sealed against the elements. Wise decision. I can't even find surface rust anywhere. It is solid and rust free as a brick. Any British car this clean and rust free is a treat. The car has been in storage for a couple of years and needs to be exercised and perhaps tweaked with a tune up, tc to get it back to top driving condition. Am being picky here.  As of this writing Hagertys classic car values list the value for the 1971 MGB GT at $6500 for good #3 and $14,600 for excellent #2. I would rate it as being closest to excellent - it certainly is far and above the "good" condition.  I will answer all email questions.

CHASSIS:

The entire underside of the car is in a state of  excellent  preservation. No damage or repairs. Straight and original. Both battery boxes even look like they were made last week. A refreshing sight.

PAINT:

Old, ery presentable. Repainted once over the factory finish years ago in the original factory Teal blue color. Very nice, hiny and extremely attractive but has a few minor age related warts like checking/cracking on top of the front fenders - mostly on the left front - hardly noticeable on the right side - as shown but the camera won't pick it up well.

EXTERIOR SHEET METAL BODY PANELS:

Extremely solid. No rust anywhere. No dents.

EXTERIOR BODY PARTS:

Bumpers and other chrome are the old originals and are in very good, traight condition. Excellent driver quality. All glass is original, ood and undamaged. Side windows roll up and down effortlessly. Doors open and close effortlessly with no sagging or operating problems. Rear hatch operates perfectly. Hood opens with the proper interior hood opening knob and closes perfectly. The hood prop rod broke off years ago.

COCKPIT & INTERIOR:

The floors are excellent originals with the original paint and insulating mats. Zero rust anywhere. Original upholstery is excellent with some minor exceptions - drivers seat bolster has a small area worn through on the left edge from rubbing on entry/exit. Center console vinyl top needs regluing. A new 12 volt battery resides in one of the battery boxes - battery access cover is intact and perfect. Carpeting, oor panels, eadliner are still in very good condition.

DASH AREA:

The dash is completely original - very nice - the top pad has a very minor and difficult to see 1" crack just about the glove box door. Gauges are all very nice and functional. All switches are there and function well. The steering wheel is good but has some minor material degrading around the perimeter. Radio is an original aftermarket AMFM Cassette with 2 rear speakers - works very well. Owner installed the radio in the original opening and opted to mount the radio on a wood mounting plate - in my humble opinion I think it may look better removing the wood piece.

AIR CONDITIONING:

It does have the original dealer installed air conditioning as stated above but will need a couple of parts to resurrect. The difficult to find original interior parts are all there, ntact and useable - the only things missing are the compressor and condensor in the engine compartment. The A/C pulley, rier, oses, tc are still there.

TRUNK COMPARTMENT:

Absolutely rust free - all original good factory paint. Correct Michelin XZX spare tire. Includes the original correct tool pouch, ack and lug wrench.

ENGINE COMPARTMENT:

Extremely nice, olid and straight as shown. Zero rust.

  ENGINE:

I believe a replacement engine was fitted at some time for an unknown reason but is a period correct 1971 1800cc 5 main bearing engine with the serial numbers of 18V584Z-L17850 and runs very well. Previous owner replaced the SU carbs with one Weber 45DCOE carb and an aluminum Canon intake manifold for better driveability. Good oil pressure. No smoke or noises. Original engine number is 18GK-WE-H/3823.

TRANSMISSION:

The original 4 speed all syncro transmission works fine.

TIRES & WHEELS:

Heritage certificate states that wire wheels were original but they were replaced at some time with the styled steel wheels - owners wife said he liked the looks better than the wires. All 5 tires are still in good useable condition with good tread - all are old Michelin XZX 175SR14's.

EXHAUST:

  Exhaust is intact and solid.

SUSPENSION AND BRAKES:

All original suspension and braking mechanisms are intact. Nothing missing. The brakes are good and working but need to be exercised, s the car has been sitting unused for quite some time.

PAPERWORK:

A clear title and a bill of sale from the last owner goes with the car. An owners manual and the British Heritage Certificate will also go with the car. The original unused car owners manual and radio manual are included.

FACTORY ID PLATE:

The original ID plates are all very nice and unmodified. The vehicle serial number is GHD5UB224854. Body number is GBUD623484.

REVIEW:

An extremely attractive rust free classic survivor that is not a run of the mill abused sports car. This is a special GT that will only appreciate in value while serving the owner in style. These cars, n general, re undervalued at this time and should be forseen as a smart financial investment, esides having the pleasure of ownership.

INSPECTION OF CAR:

As always, t is difficult at best to describe something as complex as a vehicle and it is highly recommended that you personally inspect the car or have a 3rd party inspect it for you. I can accomodate anyone to show them the car. It is described to the best of my ability along with many good photos but it is the bidders ultimate responsibility to ensure that what he thinks he is getting is indeed one in the same and something he will be happy with. I have purchased and sold roughly 25 autos through ebay over the past 15 years and also many more over the telephone and have always had excellent results and complete satisfaction from the buyers but I do my due diligence and suggest you do the same. I describe things as honestly as humanly possible.

SHIPPING:

I have shipped many cars to all parts of the world over the years and can assist the buyer with transport or completely arrange transport. The car is in a secure place at my home. You can collect the car at my home and can stay here for up to 30 days from the close of the auction. If you need a quote on transport I would suggest that you contact 2 or 3 transport brokers - they have up to date prices, re very reasonable and do all the work. I can assist with loading.

PAYMENT & BIDDING:

Contact me if you have less than 5 feedbacks or your bid WILL be cancelled. A $1000 non refundable deposit via Paypal is due immediately after the auction closes. The balance is due within 3 days via Paypal, riority or overnight mail with a bank cashiers check or cash. Full payment is to be made IN ADVANCE of collecting the car. IN ADVANCE, EFORE YOU COLLECT THE CAR - This is an auction and you have plenty of time to inspect the car personally or have a 3rd party inspect the car - inspections are welcome and encouraged. Winning the auction does not mean that you now have the privilege of coming to inspect the car to see if you like it. When the auction is over, t is your car and payment is due at the close of the auction per these instructions. The car is at my home and can be left here for up to 30 days at no charge before collection. After that I have the option of charging a storage feee. In my experience most of the cars sold on ebay are a wholesale bargain. Mine certainly have been.
