MGA 1500. 1959A thorough. body off. restoration So. the story goes……31. 00 original miles. underwent a five year. skilled ‘private/personal’ (done by the owner. who was a car technician. in his home garage) restoration. completed twenty four years ago…. and has covered only 1. 00 miles since completion. Was part of a divorce settlement. hence the car sitting and sitting and sitting in a dry garage. The ex wife had a friend go through the car. a year ago. replaced master cylinders. clutch hydraulics. wheel cylinders. cleaned the carbs. complete tune up and servicing and drove the car last Summer. around town. to the beach. etc. We converted the car to wire wheels with all new splined hubs. new front drums. new chrome knock offs. etc. Top. side curtains. and tonneau all in good condition. Paint was a bit oxidized. was professionally buffed and waxed and the results were spectacular…. excellent panel fit. wonderful finish. looks great. Engine bay is very clean. wiring is very good (might have been replaced). most of the electrics appear to be new and everything works very well. Car runs and drives much like new. Unfortunately. the restorer thought applying some thick undercoating on the floors would preserve them. They seem to be fine. have removed some of the coating with a steam cleaner. presuming the next owner has no intention of showing this car at Pebble Beach. not sure it is necessarily a deficiency in this otherwise very nice MGA. Car has its original jack. hand crank. the original battery boxes are in excellent condition (the first place to rust). we were told the engine and transmission had been rebuilt. both are spotlessly clean and function perfectly. all in all. a really sweet little restored MGA capable of providing another half century of enjoyable use.
