Description for MG MGA 1961
This very solid MGA with 82884 original miles has an interesting story behind it. I purchased it from an estate. It is 1 of 37 MGA 1600's sold in the US in 1961 as MG made the change over to the 1600 Mark II that year. From the records that came with the car, t appears that the car was owned by an engineer for Exxon and traveled extensively. During this time the car was kept in storage. The next owner purchased the car in 1989 and drove it sparingly. He sold it to a gentleman in 2000 who drove it and took care of it until I purchased it recently. There is a nice file of correspondence and vintage pictures to go with the car as well as a shop manual. My plan was to do a body off restoration but I've realized that I have too many projects and something has to go.The car runs strong and shifts well. I installed a new cloth covered wiring harness, eplaced the rear brake cylinders and shoes and had the drums turned. I also replaced the clutch slave cylinder and hose. All the instruments work including the radio. This is a positive ground car so you can become a member of the positive earth society! The wipers do not work, robably just need new brushes. It also has an electric parade fan that I don't use as it runs cool. The paint and interior are good driver quality but still look very nice, get thumbs up whenever I take it for a spin.It has a beautiful set of 5 wire wheels that were purchased from British Wire Wheels in California and cost the previous owner about $2000. It also has new P165R15 tires. The spare has never been on the ground. The top is new as well and it looks like I was the first person to ever put it up as it came to me shipped not installed in the car. It also has a tonneau cover and side curtains. There is a new set of plexiglas for the side curtains. You can see in the pics that it also has a bag to hold the side curtains that matches the interior.I don't see any rust on the frame and the car is very solid. It starts, un, rives and stops as it should. It is a fun car to drive.I'm sure I'm forgetting something so please ask questions and look over the pics.
