Description for MG MGA 1960
For sale is our 1960 MGA 1600 roadster. We acquired this a couple of months ago and have been rehabilitating it ever since. You might ask "If you've only had it a short time, hy are you selling it?"The answer is simple — for 15 years we have been trying to buy a one owner 1955 Thunderbird from a local and we finally got it! We want to concentrate all our efforts/funds on the Tbird. That is the ONLY reason the MGA is for sale. This is NOT a fire sale - if we keep it, t is not the end of the world.
The MGA was a barn find. We purchased it from the second owner who last licensed it in 2000 and we believe it is an original North Dakota car. The person we bought it from couldn't really remember too much about the guy he bought it from. He owned the car for almost 30 years. Odometer shows 80K+ miles but we cannot verify the miles. We did get a lead on the prior owner that we are following up.
It started life as a Iris blue car and was repainted sometime in its life after some body work. Again, circumstantial evidence leads us to believe it was in an accident in the early 70's (front bumper has stickers from a chrome company in 1971 and the inner fender on passenger side has a braze weld). The interior has been redone (new seat covers, oor & kick panels, tc). The electrical has been gone thru and pretty much everything works. The dash and cockpit rails were done in walnut sometime and we have refinished them. My wife and I have been redoing everything as we come across problems. Lots of little parts and pieces are now new.
We were told the engine had been professionally rebuilt before it was parked in 2000 but we are fighting an SU carb problem at the moment. The clutch and transmission work work as expected and we replaced the rear brakes and front brake hoses. All water and gas hoses have been replaced. The tires are really good but will need replacing because of weather checking — a real shame. It does have the top, oneau and side windows but the top and toneau should be replaced.
It is not perfect and the new owner could go for a complete restoration or just use it as is. It is a good car and something you could own without feeling shame. If you saw the MGA Wheeler Dealers started with — we sincerely feel this is one much better! The only things that is not resolved at this time (excluding the SU carbs) are an inoperable wiper motor and the need to rebuild the brake master cylinder (we have the parts). We are still working on the car every other weekend so there will be updates as we go along. After working on it this weekend, e determined we need to replace the carb jet levers (we already rebuilt the carbs earlier) and looked at some of the oil leaks. As a result, e ordered the carb levers and some oil seals.
If you have any questions, lease email us thru Ebay and we will respond quickly. The car is located in Bismarck, orth Dakota and we have a clear title.
