Description for MG T-Series 1955
Complete running and driving 1955 MGTF 1500 chassis with matching numbers and a clear title. The engine is the rarer TF 1500 XPEG vesion with the proper AEF 118 head. The engine number 1637 is stamped in the block, stamped on the octagonal tag and stamped on the data plate. The car number 7771 is stamped on the left front frame extension and matches the number on the data plate. The complete car had been disassembled many years ago and a restoration had begun. The would be restorer got as far as disassembling the vehicle and sand blasting most of the bare chassis. It appears that the chassis parts were then stored indoors and nothing more was done to it until I acquired it earlier this year. I assembled the chassis, changed the engine and transmission oil, installed a new oil filter, replaced hoses and some electrical items, adjusted the valves, installed a mini fuel tank on the firewall, wired an ignition circuit, replaced the spark plugs and plug wires, cleaned the air cleaners and installed a battery. The engine started immediately and rapidly settled into an idle without excessive exhaust smoke. . Oil pressure was 50 psi at 2500 rpm. Note that the temporary oil pressure gauge is from a TC and is not correct for the TF 1500. Likewise, the exhaust system and ignition wiring are not correct and have been installed just to allow the chassis to function. The chassis drives well, although the transmission growls excessively in first gear and there are NO foot brakes, just the hand brake (I have not tried to renovate the foot brakes). Rear axle is a proper TF 8/39 4.89 to 1 ratio. The frame is in excellent, solid condition with no rot or rust other than the surface rust where the sandblasted areas had not been painted. Chassis comes with all five wire wheels (decent condition but require painting), spare tire carrier, genuine TF grill in fair to good condition and two proper TF seats. The pictures show exactly what I am selling...nothing more and nothing less. This chassis would make an excellent base for someone who wants to build a TF from parts or for someone who has a TF 1250 and wants a genuine TF 1500.Chassis is for pick up only in Burlington, Wisconsin. I will be driving to Washington, DC next week and might be able to deliver it along the way for a small fee. In addition, I will be driving to Hershey, PA in early October and could make arrangements for a delivery. Please contact me at 847-830-7193 for further details or any questions about the chassis.
