Description for MG MGA 1962
1962 MGA MK II Roadster – Unrestored and Original Engine and Drivetrain Up for auction is my 1962 MGA MKII roadster (chassis # GHNL2-102906). This car was built in January of 1962 and is a matching numbers car with its original 1622cc engine (16GC-U-H-2554). factory correct 16 head. 4 speed gear box and rear differential (factory 4:1 axle ratio). This is a solid wheel car (most cars converted to wire wheels by now) that is in very good original condition. It comes with its convertible top. side curtains set. spare wheel. jack and starter crank. Odometer reads 4. 56 but I assume that is 104. 56 miles. It runs and drives very well and is an honest. unrestored. unmolested. straight and accident free rust free driver. This car was maintained. garaged and well cared for by its previous owners. Mechanicals: The MGA is currently registered in New York State. Insured and has been safety inspected. It sits garaged in Huntington. New York (Long Island). Turn the key. hear the fuel pump tick. pull the choke out and the engine starts right up every time. It runs very strong and does not smoke or have any oil leaks to speak of. Once the engine warms up after a minute. you push in the choke and off you go. Engine idles around 800-1000 rpms. Engine acceleration is smooth and the engine sounds great. It has a nice crisp exhaust note…Oil pressure is strong at 75+ psi and revs quickly to 6000 rpms without any hesitation. I have owned many MGA’s in my time and this car is one the quickest and best driving of them all. Gear box is quiet and pulls well in all 4 gears without any grinds or noises. It has a new clutch which is perfectly aligned and very easy to use. All gauges work. Since this is a MKII it is a bit quicker and has more torque then the earlier 1600 MK I and 1500 cars. This car has 94 hp and its special factory head has larger valves then earlier models (see photo of 16 stamped on rear of head). Rear axle ratio of 4:1 is unique to the MKII and is quicker off the start and cruises better at highway speed. You can literally drive at 80 mph all day long and it would run well. It has the following new parts: New Front recessed MK II Grill New Fuel pumpRebuilt Master Cylinder (Clutch and Brake)2 new 6-volt batteriesNew tune up parts (wires. cap. rotor. points. condenser. plugs)Rebuilt carbs New gas and air filtersNew hosesRebuilt GeneratorNew Clutch. Throw-out bearing and pressure plate The brake system was rebuilt and the car stops quickly and in a straight line with no fade or pulling to either side. It has factory front wheel disc brakes and rear drum brakes. Pads and shoes are all in good condition. Radiator and engine hae been flushed and all hoses replaced. The radiator still has its production tag. Engine runs cool with no overheating at all. The twin 6-volt batteries are new along with a new rebuilt generator. Charging system works as it should. Shocks seem a little soft but steering. suspension and exhaust system are all in good working order. I have service and parts invoices for all work done in the past few years. Body: The car was painted sometime in its history in Old English White (with a tint of Cream). Paint is old with some scratches but overall it looks presentable. All body panels fit well with excellent door gaps. There is absolutely no discernable body rust that I can see on the fenders and rocker panels except for some mild surface rust and discoloration. After-market fender piping was installed but I have an original set that is easy to install. Wooden floors are solid and in good condition. The frame is really clean and rust free. It was painted and undercoated and looks well protected. Front windshield has the typical cracks in the lower edges. Luggage rack seems to be an aftermarket period item. Interior: The dash is 100% original with working gauges. buttons and knobs. Carpets are good with rubber mats. Seats were recovered with Black vinyl. The steering wheel is a $300 Cherry wood Derrington wheel made in England and is a nice upgrade if you enjoy driving the car. The original steering wheel has been retained for originality. Door caps and cockpit rails are in leather and all in nice condition. Closing: This is a 53 year old car so it is sold “AS IS” with no expressed or implied warrantee or guarantees. I am not a broker or a dealer so this is a private sale that is final. It is sold “WHERE IS” in Huntington. New York and if transported will be the cost of the buyer. I have set a reasonable reserve on the car. Hagerty Insurance Co has an agreed upon value on this MGA of $25. 00. MGA MK II’s are getting harder and harder to find in unmolested and unrestored condition. These cars are getting very sought after by collectors and car enthusiasts and are appreciating rapidly for good quality cars. I have a current valid transferrable New York registration. The state of New York does not issues titles on cars built prior to 1972. If you are a serious buyer and have any questions or need any detailed photos please call me at 631-339-3349 or contact me through E-Bay email by asking me a question. I will sell to Europe/ worldwide and to anyone who appreciates this MGA MKII. I have the right to end this auction early since I will advertise on other venues. I will request a $500 deposit within 48 hours and the balance shortly thereafter and will hold the car for you until payment and transportation has been made. Thanks for your interest. Dave.
