Description for MG Midget 1973

1973 MG Midget. This car is an all original low mile survivor car. Western U.S. car finished in its original Damask Red paint with black interior and top. there is ZERO rust on the car. It is a survivor car. Paint shines nicely however the original owner had a run in with a deer which dented the hood and drivers side front fender along with some scratches. The fender should be an easy fix, the hood would require a little more finesse that would likely require a repaint. As I bought the car to drive and tour in, I was not concerned with fixing it as it doesn't affect the driveability of the car at all. The original owner also fitted the car with an AM/FM/CD stereo and two speakers which rest behind the seats, no holes were drilled to install them. Also fitted in period was a trunk lid luggage rack and a set of now very rare 14inch American Racing aluminum wheels. The top I believe is original and functions properly. The windows on the convertible top look as though they were replaced and one was replaced/repaired a second time as it is stitched to the roof along with heat pressing.
The engine is the original 1275cc 4 cylinder engine with optional aluminum valve cover. The car runs and drives strong and cruises easily at 50-55 on the highway. It does leave a few drops of oil, but nothing major for a 44 year old car. A four forward gears and reverse shift smoothly with no grinding or missing. The tires are older but decent with plenty of tread and the brakes work perfectly. Inside the car is original and shows it's age. There is a small tear on the drivers seat backrest and a crack in the top of the dash (common). The carpeting is also original but really only shows its age on the center tunnel section. Again the original owner replaced the stereo with a modern unit. Previous owner replaced the original shift knob with a wood knob. Original 3 spoke steering wheel is complete and in excellent condition. All of the instruments function with the exception of the horn, windscreen wipers, and the reverse lights. In the trunk resides one of the original Rostyle wheels from when the car was new along with an original tire and the original jack. Looking around the trunk you can see that there is no rust or any kind of accident damage. Overall the paint is in very good condition. Being 44 years old it has a very nice shine to it, though there are some chips and scratches throughout. The chrome trim is original and also in very nice condition. All of the lenses are the original LUCAS pieces, and the glass is original Triplex. The owner I purchased the car from had never put the convertible top up in the entire 10 years she owned the car and it never saw rain under her ownership. I purchased the car earlier this year, from her in Idaho and had it shipped to me in an enclosed hauler to Pennsylvania where it has resided in my climate controlled garage and I am now making room for other projects.
The Good:
100% original paint and interior.
Rust free Western U.S. car.
Runs and drives with no issues.
Rare American Racing aluminum wheels
54,000 original miles.
The Bad:
Prior damage from accident with a deer.
Missing keys for the door and trunk locks.
Horn not working.
Windscreen Wipers not working.
Reverse Lisghts not working.
I have owned many MGs in the past and this Midget has been an absolute blast to drive. Puts a smile on your face every time. It has been used exclusively for touring and nice day drives. It is titled and registered as an Antique vehicle in the state of Pennsylvania and the title shows just under 54,000 actual miles. It has not seen any rain or snow to my knowledge and it clearly shows that it was not an abused car. It's an honest survivor car. It would make an excellent touring car as it sits or is an ideal candidate for a restoration project. I am an avid antique/classic car collector, and a member of the operations committee for the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix and a member of the Antique Automobile Club of America, Porsche Club of America, Vintage VW Club of America, Mercedes Benz Club or America, BMW Club of America and the Mustang Club of America.
