Description for MG MGB 1979

Estate Sale. AS-IS. The following is the notes from a professional appraiser.......

This is a fine example of a second to last year MGB Mk IV roadster modified by a previous owner to correct what many MG enthusiasts feel were unfortunate changes required to bring the aging power train into compliance with emissions era requirements. As with many of the cars in the collection, this one has not been run in recent years, and will require some service before becoming roadworthy again.

Engine/Engine Compartment Comments: There are numerous modifications made here. All are common modifications made to late MGB’s to enhance performance and drivability. A weber carburetor has been substituted along with a corresponding intake manifold. The original Lukas alternator has been replaced with a unit. The emissions air pump and corresponding plumbing has been removed, and an earlier model cooling fan and fan shroud has been installed. Gas struts have been added to support the hood.

Chassis/Underside Comments: The chassis is clean and in good “driver” condition. Some components show light surface rust, and there is some seepage noted on suspension and drive train components. There are no visible modifications. The tires appear to be serviceable, and this car wears the optional wire wheels, which exhibit some minor surface rust.

Interior/Trunk Visual Comments: The interior is in very good condition. Trim, hardware and switchgear are all very good; the speaker grills are not installed but are present. The convertible top is somewhat wrinkled and the stitching has failed near the driver’s side windshield post. The trunk lid has an aftermarket gas strut added but it is weak.

Exterior Visual Comments:The paint is dull and there are several minor chips and scratches. There are minor dents on the trunk lid and on the right front fender. Head and tail lamps are in good condition; side marker lamp lenses have some scratches. The windshield and side glass is clear and free of any delamination.

Summary:
This is a nice example driver quality late MGB. The under hood modifications should serve to improve performance and drivability without detracting from the cars value. Although it has not been operated in recent years, it should be very serviceable after receipt of some minor service.
