ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA CAR!
I purchased this beautiful, MATCHING NUMBERS, British sports car from a retired mechanic and classic car enthusiast in nearby Palm Springs, California. It had been part of his collection.
It is VERY RARE to find a factory option wire wheel MG Midget in Damask Red, which is the ORIGINAL COLOR this stunning automobile had when it rolled off the factory line in Abingdon, England. Do you want something that is not only hard to find, but bound to stand out in any car show, or wherever you go? This is it!
The previous owner told me that he had recently invested over $3,500 in Moss Motors parts alone, not including his many hours of dedicated labor. Some of his work included:
A new clutch, brakes, including a new brake master cylinder, new slave cylinders, all replaced rubber hoses, rebuilt ORIGINAL SU CARBURETORS, new suspension bushings, battery, fuel pump, fuel lines, turn signal switch, engine valve job, resurfaced head, and much more.
I've also had my favorite, long-time British sports car mechanic from San Diego fine-tune the carburetors, and fix a few more things that needed sorting out.
WHAT WORKS? Among other things, five CORRECT SMITHS GAUGES including gas, oil pressure, speedometer, odometer and tachometer, the choke, headlights, including high and low beams, tail lights, brake lights and running lights, turn signals, tail light flashers, front running light flashers and dash flashers, the emergency brake, interior door openers, window winders, interior side vent latches, forward and back seat bottom adjustments, and more. Recently, the Smiths heat gauge decided it needed some attention.
A compression check shows: #1 - 140psi #2 – 130psi #3 – 135psi #4 – 135psi
The original 1275cc 4 cyl engine fires right up, runs cool and strong, does not smoke, has EXCELLENT OIL PRESSURE, and does everything these trustworthy little power plants have been doing so well for so many years. The clutch is solid, the suspension tight, the steering responsive, the transmission as smooth as glass, and the car is a joy on the open road. Just wait till you hear the exhaust!
All chrome, lenses, matching tires, paint, rubber, interior and top are in excellent to AS-NEW condition. The rear view mirror could be replaced in order to be up to the high standards of the rest of the interior. The visors are new. Bottom line, in my opinion, this car looks as good in person as it does in the photographs.
When you get a chance, look down the sides of the car in some of the photographs that follow. In them you will see a car that is AS STRAIGHT AS AN ARROW. All shut-lines are excellent. You may have already noticed the rare, round wheel-arch, rear wheel-wells. This popular body style was in production for only 2 years (1972-73) and is most sought-after today. Finally, as you would expect, this dry California classic has FACTORY ORIGINAL FLOORS in SUPERB condition. I have not been able to find any evidence of cancerous rust. The jack mounts are solid, the boot is bone dry, the dog-legs are rust-free and everywhere you look you may well agree, THIS CAR IS A KEEPER!
INCLUDED:
Includes a matching wire wheel spare with as-new tire, correct spare tie down, a key ring with leather MG medallion, front license plate, a great 144 pg. Hardcover edition entitled “Original Sprite and Midget” by Terry Horler, and an ORIGINAL 1972/73 MIDGET DEALER BROCHURE in MINT CONDITION that reads, in part:
“Settle in. There's plenty of room for you and a friend in the 1973 Midget, the traditional sports car that is as contemporary as today. Take advantage of the Midget's special brand of excitement. Its favorite paths are winding country roads and twisting mountain pikes, but it also has the stamina to keep you out front on the busiest stretch of expressway. Go with Midget and you'll be going with the best.”
So why not GET THE BEST, AND FORGET THE REST!
