Description for MG MGB 1965
1965 MGB Mk1. Early pull door handle model with 5 main bearing engine.Rare opportunity to own a truely one of a kind MGB. This is a time capsule car, painstakingly remanufactured between 1987-1990.I purchased the car, a California Tartan Red roadster from Oconnor Classic Cars in San Jose CA in 1987. It was sold "as is", needing a complete restoration, although totally complete and rust free.My goal was to re-create the car, bringing it to showroom condition and done at the highest level possible.
Back then, original MG parts from England were plentiful, the MGB Heritage Bodyshell world tour was happening, and you could literally build a brand new car. That is simply no longer possible, at any price.Using my skills as a dentist, mechanic and restoration specialist, the car was carefully disassembled, photographed in detail, and every piece, every last part was catalogued and organized.Using all available resources, the entire car and all systems were meticulously organized, evaluated, restored or replaced with new components, and then carefully reassembled. No expense was spared. My father in law had 30 years in the auto body and paint business and owned a auto dismantling yard. His passion was restoring antique cars. Brass era horseless carriages. Pebble Beach quality. This was my opportunity to create the finest MGB on the planet.Everything was restored/ rebuilt new. Engine, transmission, steering, suspension, driveline, brakes, hubs, wheels and tires, all electrical, hydraulics, cooling system, windshield, frame and windows, all rubber. All fasteners were top quality grade 8 aircraft, stainless steel exhaust system, intake manifold polished, exhaust headers black ceramic coated, carburators rebuilt by J Twist and polished like jewelry. All new electrical components, ignition and switches and electrical harness. Paint was PPG Deltron single stage catalyzed polyurethane primer and color coat over fresh bare metal preparation. Finish was professionally shot, color sanded and polished to show quality. New top, tonneau and leather interior and carpet with sound deadening panels. The project was finished in 1990. Trailered to car shows. 1st place honors were typical. In 1991 the car was sold into my father in law's collection, unused for 26 years.I inherited the car back last year. A mechanical restoration of all systems was just completed. The car runs, drives and performs perlectly. Overseeing the final restoration was Rick Rogers of British Steel Restoration in Clovis CA. Rick says this is one of the nicest MGBs he's ever seen and that it is essentially a brand new car.The current milage is 125. That's right. Only 125 miles!!!It will be lightly driven during the upcoming Car Week on the Monterey Peninsula. The asking price is 38,500, less than half of what it would cost to do today, if it could be done at all.I would prefer the buyer see and inspect the car in person. It is my hope that this amazing piece of MG history will go to a worthy buyer that appreciates these wonderful cars. Thank you for looking.
