Description for MG Midget 1969

!969 Arkley SS. This is a 1969 MG Midget with an Arkley body conversion. The Arkley is a 2 piece front and rear fiberglass kit that replaces the front and rear sheet metal on an MG Midget. Originally built by John Britten in the UK throughout the late 1960's and early 1970's, the Arkley was sold as both a kit and assembled car from Mr. Britten. It became an inexpensive alternative to fixing rusty old Midgets and Sprites resulting in a unique little ride that has gained a kind of a cult status. It gives the car a complete, one piece forward tipping front end providing excellent access to the front end mechanicals. Think reverse Bugeye. The rear section, modeled after the sloping back of a Morgan replaces the rear fender and trunk. There is no removal of any structural members at all, thereby retaining all the stiffness of the original, perhaps a bit more. So what you have is a marginally stiffer and lighter car than the donor Midget you started with. There is no need to re-register or retitle or reinspect the donor as none of the mechanicals or original tub are modified. Theoretically, you could continue driving the donor car throughout the process.
This car was built about 25 years ago on a very solid 1969 Midget tub. It is titled, free and clear as such. The car is in very good shape and is virtually rust free and ready to go. The improvements made include a downdraft Weber carb, Rewind wheels on excellent tires, brand new Peter May suspension and brakes, header, alloy valve cover, new coil, new clutch, and brake hydraulics, oil cooler, battery, radiator flush, complete service and a FIVE SPEED GEARBOX. The car is running very well and needs nothing to be enjoyed.
The body is in overall very fine shape, the fiberglass shows little signs of aging or cracking. The tub is rust free and solid. The interior is good with a couple of punctures on the dash pad. All gauges and lights are working fine. Seats, carpets and door panels are good as is the top. The windshield is crack free.
As stated, the suspension, front and rear has been completely rebuilt using parts fromPeter May and Moss. New tie rod ends, the works. The suspension has been lowered and properly aligned. It handles like it is on rails.
Overall, a neat little car that is a unique alternative to the sea of Midgets we all see at car shows. I have all receipts for work done and a clear title. The car is for sale locally too. I will be glad to answer all questions except truly stupid low ball offers. I've sold a few cars on ebay and want this to be a good deal for both buyer and seller. There is a great group of Arkley enthusiasts on Facebook.
