Description for MG B Roadster 1976
1976 MG B Roadster
The year 1974 was a crucial one in MGB history, as it was the year when the world's most beloved British sports car underwent the most radical changes in its 18-year lifespan. The earliest 1974 models, built in the fall of calendar year 1973, retained the small chrome bumper overriders with slender rubber tips used since 1970. The U.S.-market MGBs built in January 1974 received updated large rubber block overriders, complying with our then-new NHTSA regulations. These overriders, seen on the MGB tourers and MGB/GTs in this brochure, were nicknamed "Sabrinas" by the Brits, following the theme of 1950s Cadillacs having "Dagmars." (You get the drift.)
Gracing our halls here at Classic Auto Mall a bloody fine example of the MGB roadster. Appearing mostly original, we see patina on all surfaces. Runs fine and is looking for a good home.
Exterior
Showing off with no rust, this car is bathed in Damascus Red paint. Some fine scratching, a few chips and dulling are noted with this exterior paint. A large contrasting yellow stripe adorns the sides at the lower door point and is emblazoned with MGB lettering on the front quarter. The black bumpers are present and show some signs of age with a bit of white "powdering" sun damage. What chrome trim that remains on this car is in good condition. The convertible top in black functions manually and has some loss of clarity in the plastic windows, and a repair to the passenger's rear panel. Minator 8 spoke mag wheels are on all 4 corners.
Interior
Dual black buckets covered in faux weave vinyl, and smooth vinyl, and have a nice bordering of red piping. Dash in black is original and has the Smith's gauges. An aftermarket AM/FM/CD radio has been installed. Nice wood steering wheel and gear shift knob add a smattering of warmth to the otherwise black interior.
Drivetrain
Opening the hood reveals a restored 1.8 liter inline 4 cylinder. This engine sports a side mounted 2-barrel Weber carburetor, and the engine is painted nicely in red with black accents. There is a 4-speed manual transmission with overdrive attached to the rear of the 4 banger.
Undercarriage
Some surface rust, but nothing invasive are seen on this structurally strong unibody undercarriage. Disc brakes up front and drum brakes on the rear can be seen as well as independent coil spring suspension up front, and leaf spring suspension on the rear.
Drive-Ability
Seated within its comfortable and surprisingly roomy confines, we turn the key and the 4-cylinder comes to life. It idles smoothly and sounds good as well. Shifting through the gears is flawless, and handling is of a sports car nature.
This car, a post NHTSA creation with its black bumpers, presentable paint, and signs of usage, runs well, and could be your entry into the sports car, top down, good handling, and just fun realm. Come to Classic Auto Mall and have a gander!
