Description for MG T-Series 1954

This is a 1954 MG TF rolling project that has been languishing in indoor storage for about 35 years. Most of the important parts are there, with the exception of bumper face bars. Engine is disassembled and appears to have been bored with new pistons in the bores. There is a small amount of surface rust, but rings are not stuck and I believe all would be well with light honing. The crankshaft I received with the car proved to be cracked, so I purchased another, had it magnafluxed, and turned 10 under on both the rods and mains. Cam looks good, but lifters should be replaced (rusty). The head shows a little surface rust, but appears to have been redone with new valves (see pictures) Flywheel and a couple of clutches, as well as standard and alloy valve covers are present. Unused front header pipe, but no muffler or tailpipe. Intake manifold is there, and carburetors, carbs will need rebuilding. Gearbox isintact and I have not opened it to inspect.Rear axle is in the chassis, which appears to have been redone and painted at the time the restoration stalled.Wire wheels look good and the tires appear almost unused, although they are, of course, ancient. Most of the metalwork was completed, although some is fairly amateurish. The bonnet sidepieces are yet to be worked and could prove challenging. The tub seems to be in really good shape as does the wood/timbers. I see no structural rust. Doors look good and hinges are present, although in pieces (hinges).Instruments are there, although the speedometer and temperature gauge will need some rebuilding. There are boxes and boxes of parts, including a lot of fasteners, but a lot will need to be replaced. Radiator shell has been nicely rechromed and grille is excellent. Windshield and top frame are present, as well as correct seats and seat tracks. An unused Moss Motors leather/vinyl seatcover and panel set is included. I have clear title in my name, although the motor number does not match the title and the body plate is missing (unstamped replica body plate included)

This one is not for the faint of heart and will take someone familiar with T Series MG's, or someone willing to put in the time to learn. It's a really good start though, and these are logical and uncomplicated cars with excellent club support and parts availability. Please look at the pictures and feel to ask questions or request additional pictures.(I have lots more pictures but eBay limits how many I can include in listing) If it looks like something in particular is missing, please ask and I'll respond. It would be nice if the buyer were able to come and pick it up, but I can pack everything up and work with your shipper if necessary.
