Description for MG MGB 1973
We are offering this 1973 MG convertible which we recently obtained from the 2nd owner - had it for approx. 25 years and have lived in Ca the entire time. They bought the car from the original owner who lived in Nevada. For this reason this car is very solid - other than the one spot listed/ photo'd there are no rust concerns. The car has a clear California title and is currently registered. The car had been driven less and less which is the reason it was sold. In the last 2 years the car has only been driven approx. 200 miles. At that time the car had been brought in for work - the work cost approx. $2. 00 (receipt included)and consisted of a new battery. water pump. distributor. spark plugs. fuel pump. nbsp;most of the engine hoses and other misc items. In addition. instead of rebuilding the original SU dual Carbs. a Weber conversion was done. According to the owners. once the Weber Carb had been installed. the car never performed the same - not nearly as much power. They said at that time they just stopped driving the vehicle - other than taking to the store every now and then. All of the original parts(SU carbs) were kept and will be included with purchase. I have driven the car approximately 20 miles. The car starts right up with the manual choke extended and once warmed up a bit will remain idling(with the choke extended). Once you put the choke back in the idle reduces too low and will stall out. The car definitely feels out of tune - does not feel very peppy. The prior owners feel like the car was never properly tuned once the Weber was put in - the shop that did the work does not specialize in MG's. I have decided to offer the car in AS IS condition rather than taking it to a place to have a diagnostic done/tune up done. I would rather pass the savings on to the new owner who can fiddle with the car as they see fit. The car does not smoke at all. The cars handling is very tight. The tires are all in good condition - suspension feels good and the car hugs the road very well. Although there was no receipt for it. nbsp; the owner said they had replaced the clutch not too long ago. I do not doubt it as the shifting is very solid. The shifter has no play in it - there is no grinding with shifts up or down. The brakes appear to be working fine - no problems at all in stopping the vehicle. The emergency brake does not appear to be working however. This car has a very nice rare upgrade which is the overdrive transmission which is in working condition. Driving at 65 mph the car was at approx. 3500 RPM in 4th gear. When you activate the overdrive it reduces the RPM's to approx. 3000 RPM. I do not know how accurate the gauges in the car are regarding RPM's and MPH but you can clearly tell the difference with the overdrive. That is a very nice feature of this car. Cosmetically the car needs almost everything - with that being said it doesn't look that bad. It is a very straight car - front and rear bumpers are very straight and the chrome is very presentable with only minor pitting in a few spots. The doors open and close as they should and have nice lines. The original hood and trunk latches work as they should to keep them in the upright position when open. According to the prior owners the car has had one repaint - approx. 15 years ago in the original color. Given the age of the car and the issues previously mentioned. I am offering the car AS IS with a very low reserve. Hopefully someone will get this car and give it the attention it deserves. If you have any questions our would like any photos of a specific area of the car not shown in the ad. please call or email me and I will try and get that to you as quick as I can. My name is Randy and I can be reached at 661-203-8472. Thanks and good luck!
