Description for Mitsubishi 3000GT 1991
91 VR4 was purchased as a very incomplete shell with a good rust free body! It has undergone an extensive restoration of nearly all components. The shell had 187,655 original miles when I started, and after a bit over two years of effort, starting with the body and finishing with the engine, it is complete and runs exceptionally strong, handles beyond belief, sounds amazing from the stereo to the exhaust note, and just looks really well appointed! The car is mileage exempt per the title due to it's age, and since the car is virtually a new car, I decided to turn back the odometer to zero after breaking the engine in on the lift. The odometer now reads a total of 1,267 miles and is true of all the components also. This was done to keep an accurate count on the mileage after restoration, as well as being nicer to look at on the odometer! The car performs better than expected and runs as strong or stronger than any td05 powered car without the extra lag. This is an extra nice representation of a VR4, and the way it performs is even better! The pictures don't really do much justice. I built this car for myself with no idea of ever trying to sell, so with that being said there was a lot of love, time, and even more money spent modifying everything to the exact way I wanted it. There is, believe it or not, over $40,000 invested and have at least 85% of the reciepts to show, beside looking at the car and knowing whats there and what has been done! At $15,000 this is a great opportunity to get into one of these cars without all the problems and most of the upgrades anyone could ever want as well as a good foundation for making some serious power! I will not say how much horsepower it currently has, due to it hasn't been on a dyno to prove anything, but I will say it is a whole bunch more than factory and is a very fast car that handles beyond belief, and stops just as good! I'm selling due to I am now a single father and could use the funds to help us out a bit, otherwise I would just keep it for sure. Any test drivers will have to show proof of funds before hand, as well as only cash or cashier check will be acceptable payment! NO I WILL NOT ACCEPT PAYPAL! All offers will be entertained! The pictures are of the car uncleaned, and will continue to drive until sold, so when its time to show the car I will have it cleaned up for you! While its not a stock option it is just as easy to match with a simple paint code. It looks amazing in the sunlight! Underside was stripped and recoated as well as the inside and was repainted, sound deadened, and insulated with lighter weight materials than original. Under the hood was stripped and received similar treatment, a front end conversion to the second gen style glass projection headlamps from a 94 model. Conversion was performed by replacing core support and headlight buckets. 94-96 model front bumper was modified (teeth in the center hole were removed and glassed over smooth) and installed, second gen side skirts were used as well as a hoop wing from a 97-99 model. The first gen rear bumper cover was reused due to preference, however the steel bumper was replaced by an aluminum version which is much lighter.
Interior:Inside has been completely swapped over to the second gen (True black,) as well as light weight dynamat was used sparingly, light weight insulation installed, and new carpet installed. All seats were recovered in new black leather with a perforated insert down the centers, and it really looks very attractive while retaining a very stock appearance! New shifter and ebrake handles and boots replaced with the same leather as the seats. Tanabe gauges replaced the three in the center stack, and are in the same orientation as stock as well are behind the factory glasses in the dash.
Stereo System: Was replaced with Infinity Kappa Perfect speakers for the dash tweeters, door speakers, and rear quarter speakers, and are all powered by an Infinity multi channel amplifier. A JL Audio 10" sub was fitted behind the rear seats between the rear hatch in a custom enclosure as to not rob the cargo area of space, and is powered by a JL Audio mono block D amplifier seperately. This combination not only stays true to the factory Infinity badges on the doors, but sounds amazing!
Drive train and Suspension: Transmission and transfer case are the upgraded 25 spline. The transmission is a low mileage Japanese spec 5spd (has the taller gear ratio for top end performance), that shifts superbly, and the transfer case is a new rebuild. A bearing loaded short throw shifter has been installed along with brass shifter bushings. Clutch is a new FX stage 2 and is mated to an ultra light 8lbs aluminum flywheel that has a new fidanza friction plate installed. Clutch master cylinder is a new oem replacement as well as the clutch line is a new braided replacement. Drive shaft was replaced with a much lighter 2 piece hybrid shaft from PST. Rear differential ( solid mounted via aluminum bushings) was checked out good and was left alone other than stripping, recoating, and a fluid change with Red line ( rear axles were treated the same.) Front axles, intermediate shaft, and bearings were all replaced with new oem. All bushings replaced with and updated ultra stiff poly urethane. All wheel bearings, axle bearings, and seals were replaced with new oem. Front and rear sway bars and end links were replaced with the huge addco sway bars. Adjustable upper control arms from 3sx as well as a delete of the problematic all wheel steer system. Tein super flex coil overs replaced the tired ecs struts from Mitsubishi and the after effect is a car that truly puts a new meaning to "handles like it's on rails" Tires are Hankook Vintus V12s 265 40 18 and are on Enkei 18x9.5s
Power Train: The engine is from a 92 model which gives the car a modern serpentine system over the vbelt. Block was lightly honed, cleaned and inspected good.Stock forged crank was used along with the stock forged rods and cast pistons after being checked and cleaned. New King bearings and perfect circle rings were installed and everything reassembled using the stock torque specs. All seals, water pump, and oil pump were replaced with oem new. Heads were sent off to 3sx for a rebuild and a slight decking, 3rd gen lifters were installed along with new valve stem guides and seals. All alternator, starter, and ac compressor were replaced new. The power steering pump was retained. All the timing components were replaced with new oem, including the tensioner and belt. Accessory belts also replaced. Turbos were rebuilt (td04) and boost exceptionally well. Compression ratios after engine break in are all between 149 and 151 across all cylinders, which are great numbers to have right after a break in. The engine, turbos, and exhaust manifolds were all painted, along with a wrinkle finish on the valve covers to match stock appearance. engine was painted a sliver color to make it easier to work on and diagnose future issues. Intake plenum was sanded and polished.
Under the hood: Not a single piece was left untouched. New oem parts were used where possible, otherwise upgraded parts were used. Magnecore factory style plug wires that are 8.5mm were used along with NGK iridium plugs, original coil pack and ptu were in proper working order so were retained. A 3sx stainless ypipe was used along with a CX Racing intercooler plumbing kit to the stock intercoolers. The oil cooler was upgraded to an oversized unit that resides in the stock location and was plumbed up using stainless braided lines. A HKS twin intake was polished up and installed on the stock mass air sensor. The radiator was upgraded to an all aluminum dual core from 3sx, as well as a Mishimoto fan set and aluminum shroud was installed and the whole thing polished up. Hoses were all upgraded to a high quality silicone for cooling and vacuum systems.Battery tray is a custom piece made to fit the red top optima exactly and allows for it to be mounted back and down just a bit to provide better clearance for the intake system. Stock intercoolers were reutilized after being pressure checked, cleaned, fins straightened, and repainted.
Fuel System: All lines were replaced with 6an braided lines from the tank to the fuel rail with the exception of the return hose which is a new rubber hose. Fuel rails are stock polished rails, also a fuel rail loop was added for even fuel distribution to both banks. A new stock fuel filter was installed and the factory regulator were retained. the fuel pump was replaced with a Walboro 255lph and the stock injectors were retained( do have a set of larger dsm injectors not installed yet) Fuel tank was strippe, checked, and cleaned and repainted fresh.
Exhaust: was replaced with a new J2 from the turbos back, as well as rear turbo cat was gutted for even flow. New O2 sensors. The exhaust sounds really great and is extra throaty. I do have a set of silencers, however the car isn't too loud until you get on it pretty hard!
Brake System: The entire brake system has been replaced and upgraded to the larger calipers and rotors of the second gen. seals, orings, and hardware were replaced. new hard lines ran from the front to the back after an abs delete. braided lines were utilized on all four corners. The pads are EBC Red Stuff( these things really grip) rotors are Brakenetic and were chosen due to the high carbon content (again for grip) new oem master cylinder was also installed. After all this the brakes will amaze you and would not hesitate to put them on a road course!
What nots: Head lights and fog lights have been replaced with super bright(brighter than HID) LED system that all match perfectly together and are a white light for optimum visability. They carry a lifetime warranty and were over $600 on their own. All other lights were replaced with oem style bulbs. The projectors do have halos installed. Ac lines were flushed, cleaned, and orings were replaced along with the dryer. system was checked and has no leaks as well as the compressor has been replaced with a rebuilt one as stated above. The ECU has been replaced with a brand new Chromed ECU which provides full tunability through tactrix program, Cable comes with it. New weather strips and body seals all the way around, as well as over a grand in new fender well plastics (splash shields) There are many other parts and modifications but this should be enough for you to chew on and get the idea of what kind of car is here... Please hit me up with any kind of questions or concerns that you wish.... Title in hand and is clear!!
Things that need to be addressed: The glass is original and as such the windshield has weathering on it, not bad but it's not perfect. The ac system has been tested for leaks but currently needs to be vacuumed and filled before functional. the compressor has been checked and is filled with the proper amount of oil and works as it should. The car does have 1267 miles and is essentially done however, the car could benefit from the engine, and suspension being tuned a bit more in my opinion, along with various other things. its still fresh and just needs a bit of tweaking to be perfect or just drive it like it is. There is a very small drip of oil coming from the rear turbo oil return line, not enough to matter but does get on the exhaust from time to time. The mileage will go up almost daily a few miles each day because I love to drive it! That's all that I can think of and these things are all very minor and honestly just need to be finished by someone that has the time, I do not as a single father of a little girl( they need extra attention haha)
