Description for Nissan 300ZX 1986
I’ve been debating on whether to do this or not for quite some time now. and even though I might regret it down the line. I’ve decided to sell my beloved Z. The list is extensive and for those seriously interested please give me a call or email me with specific questions. I will break it down in a very basic way only mentioning the big stuff. Background: Bought the car with 99K original miles. at that time it was pretty much an unmolested bone stock one owner vehicle. It was exactly what I was looking for. a 1986. Earlier models did not have flared wheel arches and later models had the ugly one piece tail lights. 1986 is the perfect combination of both. plus it also came with every factory option available at the time (except for the Auto transmission). I've owned the car for 7-8 years and it currently has around 145K miles. It has never given me any problems. My goal was not to build the fastest Z. or the coolest; I just wanted to enhance what Nissan had already done by upgrading to the best possible parts from later generation 300ZX models. To me. driving a vehicle is all about balance; I never want “all the power. or all the handling”. I like enhancing every aspect of the vehicle without pushing the boundaries of reliability. I wanted to be able to cruise to a race track comfortably with the A/C working. and then push the car at a race track. and at the end of the day driving home in the same comfort while still being able to pass smog every year and use the car every day. And that is what I did a few years ago; drove 5 hours to a car show in AZ. tracked the car in a 120 degree day without any overheating issues or any parts breaking. entered the car in the show and got 1st place. and then drove back home to Vegas. After getting home. I felt like I had finally “finished” my project. Usually. a “project car” never ends. but for some reason I did not want to do anything else to the car and I was completely satisfied with it. Since then. it’s never been the same. Car just stays in the garage on a tender. and it makes me sad seeing it there knowing that someone else could be enjoying the car. I have $30K in receipts. several folders FULL of documents. hundreds of pictures of everything done to the car. and many extras and rare parts that would come with the car. Car was professionally appraised at $12K BEFORE the interior was touched; since then I’ve upgraded/restored the entire interior spending a few thousand more. Car is insured at $15k. full coverage and I pay $60 a month. Registration is $43 every year. Money was never an issue and it still isn't. I spent 4x as much buying OEM Nissan parts rather than aftermarket at times. but I never cared. I was never supposed to sell this vehicle. I am not selling it to get my money back. I’m not interested in any type of deal or financing. It’s just a personal decision and I feel like it’s time to move on this part of my life. I reserve the right to cancel the transaction at any time; even after the auction ends. If I don’t like you and I feel like you are not deserving of this car I will walk away and pay any fees if necessary. Maintenance: When I bought the car at 99K miles. I wanted the 100K mile mark to be a “zero mile vehicle” so I did everything you could imagine. Timing Belt. Water Pump. accessory belts. cam seals. crank seals. rear main. clutch. (every part of the cooling system. from the radiator down to the last tiny hose). sensors. fluids (diff. tranny. engine). alternator. Power steering system (from the rack to the pump. everything). etc. etc. etc. Everything that was removed or touched was either restored. replaced (Nissan OEM). or upgraded. Wheel bearing. bolts. nuts. hoses. bushings. mounts…. Suspension/Brakes/Tires: Entire suspension is from later model 300zx turbo (including wider control arms). Adjustable Tokico shocks/struts with lowering springs (coilovers were not available at the time). Front calipers 4 piston Aluminum 30mm 300ZX Turbo (Z32) Rears are later model 300ZX vented. Rear sub frame was modified to allow for camber adjustment MSA sway bars Cusco Stut Bars (Front and Rear) 17x8 5Zigen (light)Front with 255 wide Nito NT01 17x9 5Zigen (light)Rear with 285 wide Nito NT555 Drivetrain: Brand new 30A crate transmission (not rebuilt. bought from Nissan). This is the most desirable of all the transmission that the 300ZX came with. Upgraded LSD differential (initially went from 2 clutches to 6. but engagement was very aggressive. it currently has 4 clutches installed but I have the 2 extras) Upgraded driveshaft from Dan’s Driveline (one of the best in the Nation) Fidanza short shifter Chromoly flywheel. upgraded clutch and pressure plate (capable of handling 400+ hp) Exterior: Kept most of it stock and it still has the original 30+ year old paint. It was well taken care of but it shows imperfections when up close. Front fenders and bumpers were repainted. License plate mount was shaved for a cleaner look. Paint job was poor. and you can see chips and cracks from a couple feet away. Interior: The best part of the car is the interior. It started of as an immaculate interior. dash looks like it’s brand new (I’m not exaggerating). Upgraded the stereo to full alpine including all speakers plus a 10 inch subwoofer. head unit and amplifier. One of the cleanest and clearest sounds you’ll experience. Two tone on the seats. keeping the original look. Added foam on the sides for more bolster support. Every light bulb was replaced. every vacuum hose was replaced. brand new heater core. brand new blower. brand new climate control unit. brand new actuators (pretty much everything under the dash. under the carpet. etc…. every inch of the interior was touched. Performance: In order to keep the car reliable and most importantly. balanced; I never cared for insane amounts of power. It has a full Stainless steel exhaust system (including a test pipe and a high flow cat). a K&N performance air filter. an electronic boost controller. and it is tuned by Nistune (tuned by one of the best tuners in the west coast). It’s currently making a RELIABLE 241whp and 301 ft/lbs (which is around 290hp and 360tq). This is at a conservative 11lbs of boost with stock injectors. With an intercooler and bigger injectors and an upgraded turbo. 400+ hp is easily obtainable. Things worth mentioning: Steering rack is leaking (it’s a brand new unit from Nissan. they are no longer avaialbe). I’m guessing the seals were dry from sitting on the shelf. So at the moment. car has no power steering. Paint is 30+ years old. still looks great from 10 feet. but it’s not showroom. Plus the front bumper imperfection from the bad paint job. Rear tires are nearing the end of their life. I drive the car once a month so it’s not an issue. But they will go quickly if driven often. Clutch is stiffer than stock. It’s a performance clutch. so it’s expected but don’t expect a stock clutch feel at all. A/C is still the original r12 (Paid a lot of money to keep it that way) and it blew ICE cold up until last year when I started parking it for long periods of time. It still blows cool air and I also have two cans of sealed r12 that will come with the car. Car was tuned for 91 Octane. so premium gas is a must. Again. please call if you are serious. I could go over documentation. send more pictures or even schedule a visit if you are local. There are probably hundreds of things I’m forgetting. but I tried to show the main highlights. Reserve is set at $5500. which could be easily obtainable by selling a handful of parts. but there is no way I could part this car out. There is no catch. This car is worth over $8K in a fair market value. and close to $15K on paper (Buy it. insure it. drive it of a cliff. insurance will pay $15K). I understand the market is very narrow for these cars. and although I'm sure there's someone out there willing to pay a lot more than the reserve. I'm not ready to wait for such person. Very few people invest so much on these cars and I'm aware of that. I'm not looking to get my money back; I just want to see it go to a good home. (702) 533 7457
