Description for Nissan Patrol 1979
This Nissan Patrol model MQ/160, first registered in 1984, is extremely rare to find in this good condition. It is totally restored. The MQ has a reputation of one of the strongest, if not strongest, drivetrains of the 80's era 4wd vehicles. I've been the owner of this one for couple years now and grew up with these as a kid (my dad drove several new) and can attest to its ability to go about anywhere. This one was imported from South Africa, which makes it unique as far as engine, suspension and differential configuration goes. Solid axles, 4 speed transmission (cast iron casing), diversed transfer case, heavy duty springs. The engine is the well knows 2.8l straight six from the Z cars, E88 head with the higher than normal compression ratio, with a new weber 38 carb with electric choke, and electronic ignition. It starts easy and is a very torque motor. Once you drive with the 4 speed you rarely need the first or second gear, and it will easily cruise at the speed limit right in its torque range. This is not slow and although cabin noise from the AT tires can get a bit noisy at speed, you'll look past that once you realize how rock solid the suspension and steering remains at speed, and how well suited the 4 speed ratios really are for traversing off the tarmac roads. This truck is roadworthy and registered in NC. During restoration we went though everything, to name a few: new springs, bushings and shackles, new body mounts, new oil pressure sender unit, new OME shocks and stabilizer bar, relined gas tank, new filters and oils, radiator flushed and new coolant pipes, new carburetor and plugs, electric wiring restored, newly painted panels (doors off and glass out restoration), new sound insulation on floors throughout, new radio and 4 speakers, new wheels and new Goodyear AT tires 245/75-16, rust repaired, new door seals and weatherstripping on all windows, new windscreen, new master and slave cylinder and new pads and rear regulators with extra set of new rear drums, new and balanced front drive shaft, new front disc pads and new front knuckle bearings and seals, new upholstery door panels and rooflining. This one has the foldable 3rd row seating, and extra fitted safety belts for the middle bench. This truck drives stops steers like it did new 30 years ago. It rides straight with no vibrations and ride stock height, not lifted. It is right hand drive and the speedometer reads in kilometers. RHD is easy to get used too, and can give you a unique advantage when navigating off road. Engine and suspension parts can easily be sourced locally. There is a well established supply chain for parts from Australia, Middle east and Asia. They still manufactured this truck new in the Middle East till 1991 so parts are not impossible to get, and not overly expensive. I ordered several parts during the restore process and it took only a few days to get them delivered. The body is not perfect, there are a few dings and paint imperfections as can be seen in the pictures, but its in overall good condition considering its age and purpose. The frame, engine and drive train has no problems. There are no known electrical issues except that I haven't fitted the very rear cabin dome light, the fuel level gauge is not reliable (the display fills up to the 3/4 mark). Even the wipers, AC and cigarette lighter still works. This truck certainly draws attention wherever it goes. The pictures show "4x4" stickers on the rear doors and tailgat, which I recently removed. This truck was sold originally with the "wide wheel" package which means it came with hard plastic specially molded black wheel arch fenders. It had 33" tires on 15x10 wheels but I replace them with the 16x7 wheels with 245/75 tires. I do have those wheel arch fenders and they will come with the sale, they are just not fitted right now. Comes with a printed service manual. I will entertain local inspection or a test drive by serious buyers with proof of funds (cash in hand or certified bank check). I do not provide any warranty so please inspect or ask your questions before you bid. Winning bidder will have to make a non refundable deposit immediate at close of auction and timely do the full payment or else I may relist the truck for sale and bidder will loose the deposit. All registration and taxes are paid to date, but buyer is responsible for any costs afterwards, including shipment and state inspection and registration, after the auction closes. Registration paper and keys will only be handed over once full and final payment for the purchase price was verified with my bank.
