Description for Oldsmobile Eighty-Eight 1956
Offered for sale is my 1956 Oldsmobile Holiday 88 four door hardtop with 50,701 original miles on it. This is an impressive original car that shows many of the telltale signs of a car that has been well looked after since new. If you’re a car person you know what I mean—the doors shut right, he original steering wheel is in excellent condition without any of the typical cracks or separation, he rubber floormat has survived the last 59 years, he car is devoid of the erroneous rattles that can plague even the best restored cars. You’ve probably heard it before, ut they are only original once. This Oldsmobile was purchased new at Hoffman Motors in East Hartford, T on 9/19/56 by Carl E. Hinklemann for $2949.75. I have the original purchase order, riginal owner’s manual and first registration from Mr. Hinklemann which will be included with the sale of the car (photos can be seen by clicking here). On 8/12/68 Mr. Hinklemann sold the Oldsmobile to Dr. Raymond Edward Larson of Wethersfield, T (I have title documenting this transaction also, lick here for pictures). Dr. Larson owned this Oldsmobile until he gave it to his Grandson in 1992 who used and enjoyed the car on and off until I bought the car from him last year.
When I bought the car it had been sitting for a few years because the starter failed after undergoing an expensive mechanical refurbishment (including brakes, ront end work and an extensive tune-up per the previous owner). Since then I have taken the necessary steps to make this car an excellent driver including have the starter rebuilt and putting on a new set of radial tires (less than 500 miles on tires). As it sits currently the car starts, uns, rives and stops beautifully. The 324ci Rocket Power V8 engine runs smoothly and is surprisingly quick for a car of this size and vintage. The automatic transmission shifts as it should. The interior is in beautiful nearly unbelievable condition. The Oldsmobile is an absolute joy to drive.
I have included over 140 pictures at the link below which accurately portray the condition of this car better than I could hope to. I washed the car before taking these pictures but did not do the typical over the top detail you see on many cars offered for sale on Ebay. If you need pictures of anything else please do not hesitate to ask.

My Oldsmobile is a very nice original car but it is certainly not perfect. I think the overall condition is accurately shown in the pictures which I again encourage all potential buyers to thoroughly inspect. Its worth pointing out the car was repainted red and white at some point pre-1992 although I do not know exactly when. The car runs and drives very well but like many 59 year old cars it leaks a bit of oil (not enough to affect the level in the engine since I’ve been driving it) and the turn signals work when they want to. The air cleaner is a reproduction because the original was missing when I bought the car. It’s possible there are other minor old car issues like these that I may have overlooked although I have tried to list everything that I know of. These are all things I would want to know if I was buying a car which is why I have listed them. Having said that, think you could look for a long time before finding another Holiday 88 like this car.
I'm offering the Oldsmobile with a very low and realistic reserve considering what a special car this is. Please only bid if you are serious about completing the transaction. I have a clean MA title in my name for the car. Any questions at all please ask before bidding, 'm happy to take additional pictures or answer any questions. I'm an honest seller, nspection by you or your mechanic before purchase is welcomed and encouraged.
I've sold several cars on ebay with happy buyers and expect the next owner of this car will be pleased with this Oldsmobile. Having said that car is sold as is/where is with no warranty expressed or implied because of the age and the general nature of older vehicles. Shipping arrangements are up to you but vehicle must be paid in full within 3 days of auction end. Your bid on this auction will serve as acknowledgement of and agreement to these terms. Thanks and happy bidding.
