Description for Oldsmobile Ninety-Eight 1959
I recently moved and I no longer have the space to keep but one old car, so this one unfortunately has to go.
This is a Kansas-built 1959 Oldsmobile Ninety Eight Holiday SceniCoupe ( 2 door hardtop coupe ). This car is exceptional as not only is this a top of the line two door coupe, in an attractive 1950s two tone, it's a real unrestored survivor. This car is 99% all original, down to the paint, interior, chrome, glass, stainless, etc.. I have pulled it out of a barn myself last year, after it had been stored for more than 30 years.
When I got it out of the barn, I wanted to make it roadworthy, safe and reliable, while retaining everything I could untouched, original and unrestored, so as to not mess with its survivor status. So, I did only what was absolutely necessary, and I did not do any modifications to the car. You won't see many of these true survivors around.
Specs of this car:
Motor: 394 c.i. Rocket V8, Rochester Quadri-Jet 4 barrel carb., 315 hp.
Transmission : Jetaway Hydra-Matic Drive Automatic
Paint is two tone: « Emerald Mist Metallic » main body colour and « Crystal Green » roof and trunk
Power windows, power seat, Roto-Matic Power steering, Pedal-Ease Power brakes, Deluxe Radio, Bi-Phonic rear speaker, genuine leather seats, tinted glass, windshield washer and two speed wipers, Deluxe Spinner hubcaps, Accessory group A (underhood and trunk lights, backup lights, vanity mirror)
Everything works as it should (except windshield washer pump and clock) and she starts at the turn of the key and purrs flawlessly. This car is a dream to drive on the highway: such a smooth cruiser, it's incredible.
Done, repaired or changed since last year:
Complete brake system was redone, including the rebuilding of the treadle vac power brake booster, steering box,Gas pump, radiator, Gas tank and lines, Carburetor, Bushings, ball joints, exhaust, coil, distributor, plugs and wires, etc. I have thousands of dollars in bills for the work done. Brand new set of Coker classic radial whitewall tires and perfect alignment.
Cosmetically, she is a 60 year old survivor, so the paint has patina and is not perfect. It has many little scratches, dings and beauty marks. This car definitely has character and mojo! The only major flaw is the very end of the rear passenger quarter has been damaged sometime in the past and was left untouched (see photos). This is the only area that I would have some work done to the car if I were to keep it. It does not deter the looks too much and the car is super nice as is.
Now, the icing on the cake: this car is the most dry and solid 1950's car I have ever seen personally. It is had to believe and you have to see it. The floors are perfect all around, not one single hole or repair. This is just dry, solid steel everywhere. Same with the body, there is not trace of rust, rot or past repair. Only damage is the one mentioned, at the rear end of the passenger side quarter panel. I insist on this: this is a solid vehicle. If you ever restored 1950's American cars in the past, you know what this means and you know how rare this is.
All the booklets, manuals and brochures I have with it will remain with the car, including the dealer upholstery book (worth more than 300$ alone).
