PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE AD BEFORE BIDDING! This is an authentic 1969 Oldsmobile 442 that has spent it's entire life here in North County San Diego. It still retains both of it's original California black and yellow license plates. It is a definitely a true matching number 442. You can decode the VIN to verify but it also has it's original factory 400 cubic inch Olds V-8. I posted a picture of the VIN stamp on the side of the block so you can see it really is the original engine. It has a Turbo 400 automatic transmission, 12 bolt rearend, power steering, power front disc brakes, power antenna, bucket seats and center console floor shifter, and factory air conditioning. This would be a perfect car for a full nut and bolt restoration since it is pretty original and pretty complete.
The body on the car is very solid and straight for the most part. The floorboards, trunk pan, rockers, and frame are in beautiful condition. It appears to be original body panels. You won't find one this clean back East. HOWEVER, the elderly gentleman that had the car, instead of a Barn Find, stored it in the backyard with a tarp over the roof and it allowed water to drain directly to the rear package tray behind the rear window. It rusted the trough below the window where the weatherstripping is so obviously they both need repair. It also allowed water to drain into the drop down in the driver's side rear quarter panel and it rusted through. Surprisingly it must have been parked on an angle since the water didn't settle in the trunk pan as it would normally. The trunk pan is excellent. The driver's quarter will need a lower patch panel. The lip of the decklid has a couple of pinholes. I posted a picture of these areas. It is not really that serious in the big picture but I am not trying to hide anything. I just want to be upfront and honest all the way through so you are more than happy with your new 442. It is the original color matching the Trim Tag of Burnished Brown Metallic but I believe it has been re-painted. It has plenty of chips and clearcoat peeling. The bumpers are in good condition.
The car starts right up, runs, drives, and stops. It has been in storage for a while so I am sure a good Tune-Up would help tremendously. The engine compartment appears all factory stock. The AC does not have a belt on it. The steering and brakes function well. All of the glass is in good condition. The previous owner started on restoring the interior but didn't get far. He removed the upholstery and padding from the passenger side and rear seat, the carpet, and the headliner. I still have the seat frames and springs. He saved the original upholstery and pads for the front seat but obviously it will need an entire interior kit anyhow. The driver's side seat and center console are still installed and the dash and gauges were never touched. The dashpad has cracks. It still has the factory radio installed. He boxed or bagged and tagged most everything that he took out so I believe it is mostly complete including seat belts, ashtrays, dome light, glovebox door, emblems, etc. The door panels were too far gone and were thrown away although the hard pieces were saved. Five Olds Rally wheels including the spare tire.
All in all, this a very complete original car that would be great to restore or just do some things and drive it as it is. It is getting difficult to find real ones these days that are not completely trashed or over restored and $50k. Yes, it needs work. Yes, it is very solid. Yes, it is a real matching numbers 442. No, you can't jump in and drive it across the country because you have always dreamed of taking a Road Trip down Route 66. It is a solid drivable original project, not a restored car nor is it priced like one. I have tried to be as upfront as possible. Please be realistic with your expectations.
