Description for Opel gt 1971
An Opel gt 1971 having been modified and upgraded over the years with new or updated parts is roadworthy and can be driven home. Basically the car is used and has some rust issues as they all do, ut it is still driven weekly. Engine was rebuilt 50k ago .030 over and still runs strong. Transmission was changed to the Getrag German 5 speed 6 years ago after a rebuild. This includes the shorter drive shaft and modified cross brace. A/c was added and features the original console air ducts and the rear step mount for the evaporator which is un der the rear deck. Master and calipers were replaced with new english replacements(not rebuilt). Presently the rotors need to be cut from sitting. Radiator is new 4 years ago and uses a thermatic switch in lower hose to activate electric Derale fan at 12 amps of cooling power. Yes, ou can drive this with the a/c on in summertime. License plate is mounted on nose to allow unblocked airflow through grill. Car was painted in '09 with new windshield gaskets and door seals. Interior updated in '08 with velour seat covers and replacement side panels in the rear. Door panels are custom made and covered in padded cloth. The power windows are the hot rod type of add-ons and are in need of replacement from sitting too long unused. Drivers side still works but slowly. Floors were under covered with 1/2" plywood and epoxied over. Passenger side is also fiberglassed on the interior. The floors on the car can be replaced with sheetmetal from a 1966 Mustang floor which is identical. I wish I knew that 8 years ago...Yes, loors should be replaced and welded in, ut presently it's drivable and is sealed from the outside. Exhaust is new in '12 and needs just a ubolt tightened in the rear. Recent headliner, lean gas tank with working gauge, auges all work as does speedometer and tach. Exterior lights all work as do the roll up headlights which have a manual switch on the inside but cable is sluggish lately to operate them. Rear louvers, ew front end bushings and rear stabilizer bushings, 4" Toyota wheels with Opel caps, 18 rear for highway driving. Car is a blast to drive but needs some attention to the areas mentioned here and as seen in the pictures. Car starts right up, ear battery, ruises at 80 with no problems, o vibrations, o smoke, o leaks-just the wire harness through the cowl to engine compartment during extreme heavy rain. By no means show but it'll get you to one. Please ask questions, ffers, lean title, moke free interior, ires still good, ull size painted spare, tereo with bazooka sub, ever raced or abused. Car had damage years ago before I bought it and can be seen under the drivers side roll around headlight. It has surface crumpling only there and also under front grill. Actual mileage from over the years is unknown, peedometer was changed when engine was re[placed. Some surface rust on the right rocker. modified antenna on passenger side a-post, olvo 1800 mirrors on doors for better visibility.
