Description for Opel GT 1969
1969 Opel GT Description
I have owned the car for almost 40 years. Before I purchased it, the vehicle was abused over the years and at one time it was a frat house car. Original color was silver with a red interior. It was purchased in November 1992 and was restored between 1993 and 1996 by the current owner. The car could then be reliability driven without fear of being stranded.
Updates and improvements continued to the current year. The car was painted in 1995 with color and clear lacquer. Refer to photos, paint has issues and will need to be stripped and repainted. There are some rust areas on the door pillar, behind the front wheels and on the rear tail section. The rust bubbles that you see are the only rust areas that have erupted since it was painted.
Updates include: (most parts purchased from Opel GT Source, California and several Houston salvage yards)

Issues:
The car is very low, hard riding, very fast steering, very quick in traffic. As a result, surrounding drivers don't see the car, sometimes will underestimate the speed of the car and cut in front, or the paint job just upsets them.
The buyer should have some knowledge or history with an Opel GT. It is difficult to maintain and no one knows how to repair it. Cannot trust parts from auto parts stores. Getting a state inspection sticker is an experience. It is a young man’s ride, but I do not recommend a young inexperienced driver driving this car. It can be very dangerous and a driver can get over confident. Being very low, it can be difficult to enter and exit the car for an older driver.
Being so low, speed bumps can be hazardous
As mentioned old paint and some rust
Plastic electrical connector box under the dash, above the fuse holder, is disintegrating (old plastic) and needs to be replaced. To replace it, all electrical cables need to be removed. Fiberglass and metal boxes are now available.
Windshield washer tank is cracked and the manual washer pump bellows is rotten. Reproduction tank and electric washer pump parts may now be available.
Windshield is scratched lower passenger side from worn out wiper blade (one time frat car). Scratch has been polished almost to a point where it is not noticeable.
Tires are old. A lot of tread but will need to be replaced.
Ignition switch will need to be replaced in the near future (sometimes hard to rotate but does work)
Original clock runs a little slow
