This is NOT a replica. We just found this '38 Ford V8 powered, -passenger steel-bodied Boat-tail Speedster race car, ere in Alabama. The car was nearly all restored, ut work had stalled due to the owner having health problems.
The car was being completedwith the intention of being used on both street and track.
Just back from the upholstery shop, t is listed here, eforecontinuing with completion of restoration details
ALL reasonable OFFERS Considered
While the car was at the upholstery shop, e have learned from a vintage oval track collector, hat the car was built and raced in the early 50's by Jake Banks of Banks Auto Parts, untsville Alabama. Mr Banks died in 1988., nd the car was later sold by his Estate.
We continue to look for more information and early pictures.
this car is for sale at shop, nd listing may end at any time,
The V8 motor starts easily, nd runs VERY well. Clutch, rakes, nd steering are good, nd the car is fun to drive.
Will need an appropriate gauge panel, nd completion of interior and lights, tc.There is a functioning panel, ut it is so the car may be run, ut had not been finished. The tires are decent, but theyshould be replaced before serious use.(We have not had to put air in them since getting the car)
The wheels are the VERY desirable 'wide five' style.
rear mounted fuel tank, lectric fuel pump
electric radiator fan
all new metal brake lines and hoses
nice quality vintageBanjo Style wire steering wheel
Professionally rolled steel body around cockpit area.
hundreds of small machine screws and SQUARE nuts used in the body.
Typical construction and quality workmanship of the period
rear push bar .... side knerf bars protect rear tires
black primer looks very good, nd appears to be over a bare metal restoration
The originalbody work is nice, nd shows to be typical of American hand-built specials of the Period
Although an oval track car, many of these prewar basedSpeedster, are actively used in Vintage Road Racing events and Hillclimbs
Easy to drive...3 Speed transmission w reverse
Original custom ALL METAL original body
Originally this was a quality build and was in good condition, before the mechanical and light cosmetic restoration was begun, andit is not a hacked up, atched up, obbled together, iece of junk.
