Description for Packard 120 1940
.
What we have here is a 1940 Packard 120 Convertible in mid-restoration that is ready to be completed by the new owner (she was previously restored many years ago). This car has very little rust and is currently finished in red primer so that the buyer can decide on the color. The interior is not leather and could be restored consistent with the exterior color selection - and also in leather, ut is quite serviceable AS-IS. Overall, his car is fantastic, are and ready to meet her new owner.
This 1940 Packard 120 Convertible represents one of the finest designs of any car ever made; she is simple yet elegant and this particular car is side-mounted with covers - beautiful. Mechanically the car is sound; the engine has lots of power and compression, he gearbox has overdrive which is very desirable. The car runs and drives well, he car is solid, he engine pulls strongly, he gears are good and the brakes work as they should. The overdrive solenoid has been replaced but not the relay or the governor; the gas tank has been cleaned, he brakes have been redone, he front clip has been installed using just a few bolts for easy access, he lights are off the car but are in very good condition and ready to install.
.
The car has a 12 volt electrical system utilizing a device to lower the voltage to 6 volts for the gauges and the solenoid for the overdrive. The wiring is not original but ok however some of it needs to be replaced. The body is sound with very little rust, he original paint was removed and the car is in primer. The chrome is not good on the bumpers but the rest is fine. The molding is not the original type and neither are the louvers. The dash needs paint or wood graining and the paint of the letters on the glass of the instruments is marginal. The top is acceptable but has a rip on the lower left corner. The upholstery is good but not leather.
