Description for Other Makes 770 1964
I apologize for those interested in this car in the previous auction. I had to relist is eBay in all it's wisdom automatically placed it in the wrong category. I have now relisted it in the proper place. This early production Amphicar is an inexpensive way to get that Amphicar you've always wanted. It is really straight but crunchy. It is very restorable. Most of the rust is surface only. The lowerpanelscan be cheaply made from flat 16 gage steel (About $80 per 4x8 sheet). It looks worse than it is and I have seen many much worse than this fully restored. I know of one that spent 17 years at the bottom of a 50' deep lake that is now a show quality car.
This is not the factory installed rust but the more desirable light weight after-market rust. This is not something you can apply in a few days out of a can! It takes years of careful neglect to obtain this truly one of a kind effect. It is also one of the rare "super light" Amphicars. If you look carefully you will see the all natural organic and somewhat generous use of using air to replace some of the original steel body panels. It is a very green approach returning a portion of the car to mother earth.
Very complete (90+-ish%) and ready to live again!
The front seat is missing and not much else. Nothing big comes to mind anyway.Four Amphicar 1340 wheels (worth $200 ea), op bows are in superior condition needing some lube to work smoothly.
Engine and both transmissions are intact (not running). The engine is EASY to replace as it is a Triumph Herald 1147cc 4cyl engine. You can use a 1300cc or 1500cc Triumph engines as well.Usabletransmissions are about $2000-$3000.
True NOS floor is available and most all panels are easily made with 16 gauge sheet steel. Most parts are available if you know where to look (I do). I will gladly help you to know where to (and where NOT to) buy buy what parts. I am a former President of the International Amphicar Owners club and have specialized in Amphicars for 17 years.I've restored a number of them so as a bonus you get free technical help from me. No title as it came from Texas where they do not title cars older than 25 years. Sold on a bill of sale. I've owned it for 10 years or so.
