Description for International Harvester Scout 1972
Listed for sale is a clean 1972 International Scout II that is in very good condition, early rust free and straight. I purchased this vehicle about 2 years ago in the dry climate of southwest New Mexico, ear the Arizona border. The fellow I purchased from had purchased the Scout from an elderly gentleman. Mileage @ 85K was told to be exact and I have no reason to doubt this seeing its condition and strength of the engine. This Scout has a 345 with an A727 three speed automatic. When I purchased, he transmission was slipping and after the shop diagnosed that the 40+ yr old seals & clutches were beginning to harden and fall apart, complete rebuild was in order. This was completed Aug 2015. In addition to the rebuild, Transgo TF-2 Reprogramming Kit (shift kit) was installed which provides clean, uick shifts. The gearing is 3.73 with a Dana 44 with power lok (RA-28) in rear and Dana 30 (FA-13) in front with Lock O Matic hubs and a Dana 20 transfer case. Although I have not had the chance to take off road, he 4 wheel drive system functions properly and is tight.
The tires are WildCat EXT Radial LT with excellent aggressive tread and a spare that’s never seen the road (235/85 R16). The Scout originally came with an AC and the bracket is still there but the compressor is not.
List of the new or rebuild items recently completed are:
Rebuilt: A727 transmission, eber carburetor, adiator (tanked, nspected and cleaned)
New: battery, uel pump, oil, istributor cap, oints and condenser, park plugs and wires, ballast resistor, aster cylinder, rake booster, ear shocks, hoke cable, ear brake shoes.
Items that I would still like to complete/fix if I had the time are: front alignment, ower steering leak, rake wheel cylinders (even after new brake booster and MC, rakes still to stiff so they are suspect), ront brake shoes.
As seen in photos, he floors and rocker panels are solid, here is a small ding in rear lift gate and a few areas where bubbling on both rear fenders are beginning and the passenger side body mount has some rust. Other then these areas, he vehicle is extremely straight. The vehicle drives well although is in need of an alignment because it does tend to follow grooves in road. The engine starts and idles perfectly and has plenty of get up and go. It does occasionally smoke at morning start up. The newly rebuilt transmission shifts tight and strong but is not overpowering. The dual exhaust system has a good rumble but is not overly loud. All doors including hood and tail gate shut tight and solid.
