1952 HUDSON HORNET SEDAN

HISTORY

The Hudson Motor Car Company was known for producing durable, well engineered but conservatively styled automobiles. That reputation was to be forever changed on December 7th, 1947 when Hudson introduced their new 1948 models in nationwide showings. Banners proclaimed “This Time It’s Hudson”. The cars won instant acclaim from the public. The car had the lowest center of gravity and the lowest roofline of any American car without sacrificing headroom, due to the floorpans being attached to the bottom of the frame members instead of the top as all previous American cars had been. While the 1941 Nash 600 had been the first production unibody car, the new Hudson was significantly more rugged in construction and offered a sleek new design that was way ahead of the competition. The new body design was termed “Monobilt” because the body structure was of welded all steel construction.

The Legendary Hudson Hornet was introduced for the 1951 model year. They immediately started burning up the racetracks and byways of America. Many improvements were made for the 1952 model as the racing experience pinpointed any weak spots.

The 1952 Hornet Sedan featured in this auction is equipped with the “Super Power Dome” High Compression cylinder head and Twin H Power on the original matching number engine. These engines are rated at 170 Horsepower. This car is the desirable late 1952 Hornet equipped with the Dual Range Hydramatic and a Dana 44 3.07 ratio rear axle. It is also equipped with Radio, heater, directional signals, reverse lamps, remote spare tire filler and Ventshades. The 52 hood ornament was replaced with the 1953 wing by a previous owner. A replacement 52 hood ornament is included! The current mileage is 67,585. I believe this to be the actual mileage, but it is exempted due to the age of the vehicle on the Indiana title in my name.

CONDITION

This car was restored in the 1970’s and still shows very well.I have been driving this car as an everyday car the last two weeks and it is a pleasure to drive! This car starts instantly, runs, drives, handles and stops great. It makes nice power and the Hydramatic shifts right on time. The two tone paint shines nicely, but was done many years ago, has some touch ups and is driver grade. This car was scraped down the passenger side and repaired at some point. The car is very good structurally, having never been exposed to salted roads. I have included underside photos. Some exterior chrome is NOS, some is driver grade, but all shines nicely. All of the stainless trim is very well polished. The interior was recently done to include a new trunkmat. The seat padding was rebuilt and is very comfortable. The woodgraining was done by Jim Wildrick and is exceptionally beautiful. All of the glass is fresh Solex tinted glass with new whiskers, felts and division bars. The windows glide up and down effortlessly. Recent repairs include a fresh fuel pump and fuel tank, a restoration grade four wheel brake job with new wheel cylinders, new frictions, all wheel bearings were cleaned, inspected and lubed with Mobil 1 synthetic grease and new wheel seals installed. The brake system was converted to DOT5 Silicone brake fluid. New stabilizer links were installed. The manifolds were resealed, a fresh headgasket, front and rear seals, a timing chain, some underhood detailing and painting was performed! The radiator was reconditioned. It sports a new set of modern 225X75 R15 wide whitewall Radial tires on powder coated wheels. The horns honk! The vacuum windshield wipers are slow. All of the gauges and lights work, except the reverse lights that were never wired. The clock and Radio are inop. The turn signals do not automatically cancel. The engine is whisper quiet and runs strong! This car goes down the road great. It steers absolutely straight. There are no noises or vibrations at the comfortable 70+ MPH cruising speed!
