EXTREMELY RARE Cobra replica. Up for auction is a custom built Factory Five Racing (FFR) Cobra, "Spyder" model which was built in 2003. This particular body was a very limited production, one of only 38 produced. The frame on this car is VIN 001, the first production Spyder offered. It is located in northern Colorado, has a clear title with a Colorado special vehicle VIN tag. Color is 2003 Corvette Anniversary Red (candy-apple 3-step), with Arctic White Pearl (Cadillac Escalade) stripes. Frame is a 4 in. round tube frame built by FFR, with a Thunderbird IRS rear end, custom 17 in. Compomotive wheels, FFR front suspension, and coil-over shocks. Roll bar is full width, FFR designed, four point mount. Over $65,000 invested in this car.
This car resembles the Factory Five Type 65 coupe, as the tilt-front end is patterned off of the original Shelby Daytona Coupe, however the rest of the open-top body is uniquely designed by Factory Five Racing, penned the Spyder GT. This model was only available for two years, 2003 and 2004. The Spyder preceded the FFR GTM project and is very rare and unique. It is truly one of a kind with this custom build. The clear and valid Colorado title lists this vehicle year as 1965.
Note that the VIN check won't come up with any information since this car is a hand-built car with a special Colorado VIN plate installed by the CO-DMV, and is not a standard 17-digit VIN number.
Engine is a very rare and highly acclaimed 1987 Buick Grand National 3.8L, slightly built for up to 550 HP. Twin Precision ball bearing 55-54 turbos, custom fabricated headers, twin wastegates, ceramic coated integrated side pipes, and a FAST XFI ECU for engine control. Transmission is a GM 200-4R automatic with a 3000 RPM stall lockup converter. Power steering and power Baer brakes. Runs very strong and is very easy to drive. Car is classified as a hand-built kit, body "CV COL" and is emissions-exempt.
Interior features FFR high back bucket seats with 5 point racing seat belts and full custom gauges by Autometer. The car is pre-wired for a radio (speakers, tweeters), dash includes extra power buttons for add-on electrical accessories. Car is fitted with a heater and windshield wipers. The headlights are Philips HID equipped, and fog lights are HID equipped - same system as used on Mercedes Benz and BMW. Dash is customized with LED pushbutton switches which control individual relays for their functions. Single functional windshield wiper, front wind screen is Jaguar sedan. Pre-wired and setup for stereo which was never installed - twin speakers and tweeters are fabbed into the vehicle.
Other customizations include VW Beetle front turn signal lamps, Corvette C5 rear side markers, BMW Z4 rear taillights, and Pontiac Ventura Van 3rd. brake light. License plate and fuel filler are both frenched into the fiberglass body. To date, there are about 12 Factory Five Spyder vehicles completed, and this was the very first Spyder to be completed and driven.
