Description for Other Makes Crosley Kiddie Fire Dept 1952
This mint condition 1952 Crosley Hook and Ladder Fire truck. nbsp;with all its bells and whistles (literally). nbsp;looks like it just rolled off the pages of a Dr Seuss cartoon book! It is believed that approximately 100 fire truck versions were constructed in the early post-WWII years (1947-1952 to be exact) and came in one size-Extra Small. Basically. it combines a Crosley vehicle in the front with a long and skinny 20' custom built fifth wheel "hook and ladder" trailer with 2 rows of seating for the lil kiddos then adding the gold leaf lettering. and typical fire truck accessories (lights. sirens. bells. hose. and hose reels) to create these interesting miniature fire trucks to ferry kids around carnivals. nbsp;amusement parks. and parades. A bit of history. nbsp;many of you recognize the name 'Crosley' from the appliances such as AM radios and refrigerators well. Crosley also built cars too and actually sold them right alongside the Crosley appliances in hardware stores! The Crosley vehicles were clearly ahead of their time being able to run nearly 50 miles on just one gallon of gas not to mention. each one was as cute as a button. With reliability. durability and safety in mind. this specific example has recently had the engine and transmission rebuilt and the undercarriage has been refreshed using high grade steel. During the rebuild of the drivetrain. this vehicle also received a new clutch and all new electrical wiring as a result. it runs and drives great!
