"THE BLUE CLOUD"
For sale is a VERY RARE & UNIQUELY styled, 1961 Auto Union DKW 1000 S. This vehicle was recently discovered in an airplane hanger on a small rural air field tucked way out in the middle of no-where... It is in deed a true, unmolested, original survivor, bonafied . !!! I became aware of the car after learning of a women whom was offering for sale some of her late husband's vehicles. It appears as though this gentleman appreciated & sought out the purchase of unusual and hard to find vehicles. Considering the wide range of his collecting interests ( cars, planes, motorcycles & boats ) I naturally assumed that this vehicle was simply just another of his many eclectic acquisitions. Instead, his wife proceeded to inform me that this particular car was actually in fact, owned & operated ( driven ) by her. She went on to say, that it was her personal form of reliable daily transportation to & from work for many years at the local college. After having experienced some minor difficulties with it maintaining a consistent idle, it was at that time in which she decided to park it inside their airplane hanger until her husband had an opportunity to have a look at it. She insisted that it DID run when it was parked, as she personally was the one who drove it into the hanger. That is exactly where it has remained for the better part of the past30 years !!! Boxed into a corner, as its existence was almost all but forgotten about.
The Auto Union 1000 was a small front wheel drive "compact car" produced between 1958 and 1969. Auto Union was the result of the merger of 4 German car companies formed in 1932. Few are aware of the fact that during the 1960s, the German company which became AUDI licensed car production in Argentina. The Auto Union 1000 was available as a 2 or 4 door sedan, a 3 door wagon, or as a specialty Coupé or Spyder "1000 SE".
These vintage "PRE" - AUDI vehicles featured a small scale, lightweight 3 Cylinder / 2 Stroke motor with a 4 speed manual transmission. These engines were rated at being capable of producing 980 cc of power. At some point in time these cars acquired an appropriate & fitting nickname "THE BLUE CLOUD". This is in direct reference to the exhaust fumes in which they emit while running. The DKW/Auto Union motor was designed to be a two stroke engine, therefore oil is burned with each ignition of fuel. The oil produces a blue hue within the exhaust smoke, -AND- therefore when these cars are running they produce a BLUE CLOUD!!!!!
This specific & rare example appears to be almost 100% complete & intact. From the motor, to the interior, & all the way around its exterior body, panels, parts & trim. It even still retains its original spare tire & jack which are shown pictured, present inside the trunk. This car has been very well preserved as a result of the significant length of time it has remained stored without having ever even so much as been touched for all these years. That alone qualifies this vehicle to be an easy / hassle free restoration project for that individual seeking an unmistakable, one of a kind car. There is no hunting for that missing part. It is virtually already all still there, just waiting for that someone to take up its highly interesting, enjoyable & rewarding endeavor. Although the motor has not been fired for a number of years, it is in fact able to easily be turned over by the strength of a firm bare handed grip alone. The motor should without a doubt be able to be started with very little effort in the hands of any individual having the basic knowledge of small engine mechanics.
Don't miss out on this RARE opportunity to own such a UNIQUE & UNUSUAL eye catching piece of history... - Title is clean & in hand.
Due to the vehicles current state & the extent of time in which it has been stored, I am forced to offer this car for sale "AS-IS" & / or for Parts-or-Repair purposes only. Winning bidder is responsible for any & all transportation fees associated with its purchase. Since this vehicle is being offered for "local" pick-up only, ( either ) a cash payment upon arrival or bank-to-bank wire transfer are the only 2 forms of payment in which will be accepted. Please address any questions or concerns prior to the end of the auction.
