Description for Other Makes 1914
. This 1914 Chalmers Model 24 is one of the biggest, most powerful cars of the brass era, and is brimming with advanced features - Factory Self Starter/Generator! Pressure Oiling to the main bearings! 4 speed transmission! super smooth Multi-disc cork lined clutch with self-oiling! Huge 37 X 5 Tires! . The Chalmers was factory rated at 40 to 65 HP! The big 6 Cylinder engine had cylinders cast in 2 blocks of 3 cylinders each. . 5 Passengers were accomodated in luxurious 1914 style! . This car is fully electrified, with electric lamps. No Acetylene! . Rear mounted spare. . The paint job is quite old, and shows some wear, as well as a spot on the rear quarter panel, visible in this photo, where some bodywork is needed. . The seats were beautifully redone in deep tufted leather. . The lap of luxury in 1914! . Excellent interior! . Nice wood rim steering wheel, with quadrant for throttle and spark advance . The lever on the center of the dashboard is the starter control. It's actually a blade style switch . When you move the lever to the right, the engine turns over and starts! The leather on the dash looks like the original! The chain near the steering column is connected to the engine whistle on cylinder # 6 ! . Here's the shift mechanism - with all 4 speeds and reverse cast right in! . The top is nicely and recently trimmed. It's a 5 bow top, as befits one of the biggest cars of the brass era! . The massive 6 cylinder engine! Frank Hurley did the engine about 10 years ago. The Upper end was all redone, and the lower end was inspected and found to be in excellent condition! It starts easily and runs great now! . This oiler feeds the clutch oil for the cork lined clutch. . It's a t-head configuration, with 2 cams and valves on both sides of the engine. Note the engine whistle on cylinder # 6 ! . Here's the intake side. Intake on the left side, exhaust on the right! . Oil cans with brackets for the various lubrication points. . The Stewart Vacuum tank is newer than this car, originally the gas tank would have been pressurized by a hand pump for fuel pressure. So far we haven't gotten the vacuum tank to work, so the car is running using the vacuum tank as a gravity feed. That would have to be fixed and probably the gas tank cleaned out before using the car for touring. . Nice spotlight / Mirror combination, although it's not hooked up electrically. . Original Warner Speedometer and oil pressure gauge . Fuel Tank with gauge . Nice Chalmers emblem . A big, impressive machine! . Impressive! . Wow!
