Description for Other Makes 1959
Up for bid is our 1959 Thames 300E gasser. This has been owned by us since 1974 when we purchased it from a 4x4 shop and has been driven since 1978. Originally a gasser all the suspension parts are correct to the original gasser as it was raced It has been redone once in 1995 only to freshen paint and interior. Originally built as the Smurfmobile it was used for many public appearances and shown around the Midwest. When redone in 95 it continued to be a favorite at many shows and cruise-ins. The all steel body is on a full tube frame that is a mirror image of the original unibody. The front suspension is a chrome Econoline with parallel leaf springs and fitted with 1948 Mercury drum brakes. The rear suspension is a narrowed and chromed 1957 Chevy fitted with Dutchman axles. Two center sections are used; in the car is a 2. 73 open for driving the second we use is a 4. 56 posi unit when we want to run it. Chrome traction bars are used on the parallel leaf set-up. The engine is a 1972 Chevy with new aluminum heads and new Lunati valve train. Mallory distributor. everything is polished or ceramic coated. Engine block has been smoothed. Exhaust is handled by custom headers and 3 inch exhaust pipes. chrome extensions can easily be removed for open exhaust. Transmission is a US Speed Research Turbo 350 with kit. Wheels are first design Ansen Sprints 3. 5x15 front and 10x15 rear. They are in excellent condition and have the correct center caps. Rubber is like new and are radials front and back. Custom interior with an engraved Smurf in the dash from the original build. Finished in Ford purple with clearcoat. New for this season besides the heads. valvetrain and distributor is all new aeroquip fuel lines and the original fuse panel has been updated to a GM push in style. Fun car to drive and it drives straight with no bumpsteer even with a straight axle and 86 inch wheelbase.
