MotoeXotica Classic Cars is very pleased to present this 1933 Hudson Terraplane Restomod. Designed in 2005 by Aaron Kaufman, the former lead mechanic at Richard Rawlings’ Gas Monkey Garage, this Hudson has come a long way from its humble beginnings and is very collectible as it’s one of Aaron’s early builds!
Documentation includes original title and a copy dated August 11, 1941 from a Terraplane sedan; a color photo before painting; black-and-white photos taken October 12, 2005 before the conversion; parts instructions; plenty of hand-drawn designs from Aaron Kaufman; and various maintenance receipts and invoices.
Finished in an eye-popping Deep Impact Blue exterior, the car’s paint and trim are in excellent order. The chopped and split windshield is the only panes of glass, which are clear with a small crack on the lower section. The car’s lights, including the bullet-shaped taillights, are haze-free and intact, its bodywork is straight and solid and the engine bay is quite tidy. The car features a hydraulic hatch, power door poppers and a custom turned firewall.
This restomod rolls on Firestone Deluxe Champion gum-dipped wide whitewalls, size 5.50-18 in front and 7.00-18 in back. Each tire surrounds a custom, one-off, two-piece gold wheels designed personally by Aaron and his original hand sketches of the wheels are included with the car.
Ahead of the cabin, a 312 CID Y-block V-8 from a Ford Thunderbird, which replaced a previous Jaguar mill, is nestled behind the front wheels. The engine has stainless steel shorty headers, an adjustable Panhard bar, an aluminum radiator with electric fan, dual side exit exhaust and an in-frame fuel tank. Backing the engine is a three-speed automatic transmission. Other goodies include an air-ride and four-link rear suspension; chrome front axle and four-wheel disc brakes. Note: this car features manual steering and manual brakes.
Inside, the car has a screaming custom red interior. The bucket seats are in excellent order, as are the three-spoke, red-rimmed, banjo-type aftermarket steering wheel, the red inner door panels and blue instrument panel. The dash features Stewart Warner gauges but the speedo and odometer are inoperable. The red custom center console and shifter are in similar condition and the shifter is whimsically topped by a blue 8-ball. There are also a power rear tonneau cover and power door poppers.
