Description for Jaguar XJS 1978
This is a rare opportunity to own an extraordinary example of Jaguar’s V12 Grand Tourer. The sales literature for the car exclaimed its “Thundering Elegance” and that is the feeling you get when driving it. An experience like no other.
This XJS has a striking color combination of silver with a beautiful red leather-trimmed interior. This example is in wonderful condition inside and out with style that has endured and never fails to turn heads. Prior to the current owner, the carreceiveda quality repaint maintainingthe originalfactory color. Please have a look at more than 60 detailed photographs of the car.
Equipped with a 5.3 liter 12-cylinder engine, the power is transmitted to the road via a turbo hydromatic 400 automatic. This Jag accelerates with authority, handles the curves with power-assisted rack & pinion steering and stopping power is 4-wheel disc.
It is rare to find an example of this model in such condition. There are a fair number of inexpensive offerings on the market but the reality is that many of these cars have been neglected over the years. This is not one of those cars.
The car spent most of its life in the Portland Oregon area until it was purchased by the current owner in March of 2012 and was moved to Palm Springs, California. As you can tell by the condition, it was always garaged and service records go back to 1978. When he acquired the car, the current owner performed some maintenance that included a new fuel pump, drive belts, vacuum lines, spark plugs and an update of the air conditioning system to 134a Freon. He also had the headliner professionally replaced. Currently the car has 49,360 and the transmission and rear brakes were recently serviced, the AC blows nice and cool and it passed smog in California.
Bright trim and glass is all in great condition with the original windshield still in place. One of the two previous owners replaced the US spec headlights with streamlined Euro versions which further sets the car apart from others. Dust off your 8-tracks as the player works and transports you back to a different era. There is a slight amount of wear on the driver’s seat side bolster (pictured) and there is a bit of a fuel smell in the trunk from a past leak, long since resolved.
